Thanks TampaPrius.com. Found a used OEM 88K miles (re-certified), but my original had to be replaced at 89K, so I don't know about that. Is that much better than getting a brand new non-OEM? Although my question is also - should this new one already be failing at 75K? And why did the original fail so soon? I see most people posting about theirs not going bad until well after 100K (120, 130, 150 etc).

Usually a catalytic converter will fail prematurely if the engine is not operating correctly (excessively rich fuel/air mixture or the engine is consuming oil).

My 2004 had 231K miles when I sold it and the original cc was working fine.

I can't say whether you are better off with a used cc that has logged 88K miles.

After about 6 months after the catalytic converter was stolen from my gen2 and having to have a family member send me aftermarket one. The check engine came back on and would prefer to weld on a CARB approved catalytic converter due to longevity concerns. After extensive research, I have found a CARB approved one that is used on the Yaris, Matrix and other toyota's from the same era. The aftermarket one lasted about 8000 miles.

I also read that the Prius cannot get a aftermarket catalytic since CARB will not allow the testing of cars that have a SULEV emissions rating or higher. Based on this. I figure my best course of action is to have one welded and hope that solves the problem. Not to mention that it can be shipped to california.

I think the Walker D-182-62 is the best option and have the added benefit of the comprehensive warranty.

Any thoughts? Anyone have tried another option.
