I never installed a remote engine starter on mine, since I always charge my car over night. For remote engine starter, the charge cord has to be removed. I think you are confused with the remote climate control feature of the Prime. For me that feature is worthless. It doesn't work when it's cold (below 14F), the heat pump is not effective.

    Summer (June 1 – Sept. 30)

    • 9.36 cents/kWh for all kWh
    • For kWh consumption more than 100 kWh and less than 401 kWh, a credit of $2.07 per month will be applied
    Winter (Oct. 1 – May 31)
    • 8.63 cents/kWh for the first 100 kWh
    • 7.46 cents/kWh for the next 900 kWh
    • 5.27 cents/kWh for all additional kWh

      Minimum Monthly Bill: $32.07

Below/To the right of the shifter, there are a few buttons. Drive Mode, HV/EV, and EV Auto. When the remote start is installed, in order to not kill the EV battery, and also work in low temperatures, the installer should make the car starter activate that HV/EV button after the car starts. It’s just a programming thing, works perfectly.

    thanks!

no one else has been able to do that yet, so it would be helpful to the community if you could provide detailed instructions (y)

I didn’t install it myself, so I can’t explain everything. It was done with a Viper Kit and installed at Best Buy. They know how to do it there, so if you want it done I’d start there.

Sorry for the late follow up to this thread which I started.

I stopped by the shop where I had my Prime tinted but they also do remoter starters. The tech had spoken to their tech
which I believed at Viper. They wanted this tech to do & observe somethings. That's why I had to go there. So this is what we did:

    1. We both sat inside my Prime - temp was around 80F that day
    2. "Push Start" the car and naturally it started in EV. This is by design.
    Battery level ~85%
    3. Turned on the AC and I set the inside temp to be around 68.
Pushed the Fan to high. Sat there and car running for > 10 mins.
No change in "State" - meaning the gas engine never kicked in.
    4. Pushed "EV/HV" button to go HV mode.
Again, sat there for another 5 mins. No change in state.
    5. Now we turned OFF the AC and shut off the car.
    6. "Push Start" the car
    7. Set the cabin temp to MAX. - meaning we were simulating turning the HEAT ON and yes, it was 80F outside.
As soon as the word "MAX' appeared on the screen, the gas engine kicked in.
    8. Repeated steps 5 thru 7; same results

The tech said that's all he wanted to observe and will call their tech back.

So I do believe it is possible to have a remote starter installed for what I want it to do in the Winter.

I haven't call the tech to confirm.

On my Prime here in Norway, pushing and holding the AC button on the keyfob will activate the cabin heating/cooling depending on it's last state.
This works when the car is plugged in as well.
Also pushing and holding down the keyfob doorlock button will cause the car to start beeping then raise any windows that are not fully up.

No, it will not start the engine.
As the heating/cooling system is electric, there's not really much point!

Precisely. Many of us live in climates where the temperature will sink below the effective floor (~11F) of the heat pump. To have heat, we need the ICE to start.

Lol ....this YouTube video " extreme cold " at 6F make me laugh ..haha....come on... Up here we can get easily -25c / -30c during an entire month and this is cold but not extreme. I have seen worst ... Well , some Prime owners here gets a remote start engine installed + auxiliary module. The remote start put the car in ready mode then the auxiliary module activate the HV/EV button. Problem solved. And yes the car must be unplugged.

Sorry it has been a while since I replied to this thread. I recently had a Viper installed. Viper has an additional module
which you need to purchase in order to simulate the pressing of the "HV/EV" button upon remote starting the car in order
to kick start the gas engine. I opted NOT to get this additional module. It's doing what I wanted it to do with one caveat -
you can't have sufficient traction battery. So, in the winter, I don't intend to charge my car as much. Since it's still Summer
and hot & humid (95-100F), I have the benefit of remote starting my car with the AC "ON" as soon as I step out of the train
when I come home from work. Starting the AC using the OEM fob is basically useless.

You need to leave the traction (aka hybrid) battery low. If your battery is fully charged, it will NOT work.

so, the car cannot be plugged in, and cannot have too much battery charge?

meaning, you're basically driving it like a gen4 all winter?

I don't understand this relationship. Is 99% OK? How does the battery SOC affect the remote start?

maybe the only way the engine fires is to charge the battery

It doesn't affect the remote start. It affects how the car will start. You know that Prius PHEV by design starts in EV
mode. I want it to start in gas mode.
