2018 Prius Prime - Remote Engine Start

I never installed a remote engine starter on mine, since I always charge my car over night. For remote engine starter, the charge cord has to be removed. I think you are confused with the remote climate control feature of the Prime. For me that feature is worthless. It doesn't work when it's cold (below 14F), the heat pump is not effective.

In Omaha Nebraska, the marginal last kWh is 9.36 cents in summer and either 7.46 or 5.27 cents in winter (depending on how much you use). Plus sales tax of 7.5%.

Service Charge: $30.00/month

Summer (June 1 – Sept. 30)

• 9.36 cents/kWh for all kWh
• For kWh consumption more than 100 kWh and less than 401 kWh, a credit of $2.07 per month will be applied

Winter (Oct. 1 – May 31)

• 8.63 cents/kWh for the first 100 kWh
• 7.46 cents/kWh for the next 900 kWh
• 5.27 cents/kWh for all additional kWh
  
  Minimum Monthly Bill: $32.07

 

Below/To the right of the shifter, there are a few buttons. Drive Mode, HV/EV, and EV Auto. When the remote start is installed, in order to not kill the EV battery, and also work in low temperatures, the installer should make the car starter activate that HV/EV button after the car starts. It’s just a programming thing, works perfectly.

I didn’t install it myself, so I can’t explain everything. It was done with a Viper Kit and installed at Best Buy. They know how to do it there, so if you want it done I’d start there.

 

On my Prime here in Norway, pushing and holding the AC button on the keyfob will activate the cabin heating/cooling depending on it's last state.
This works when the car is plugged in as well.
Also pushing and holding down the keyfob doorlock button will cause the car to start beeping then raise any windows that are not fully up.

No, it will not start the engine.
As the heating/cooling system is electric, there's not really much point!

Precisely. Many of us live in climates where the temperature will sink below the effective floor (~11F) of the heat pump. To have heat, we need the ICE to start.

 

Lol ....this YouTube video " extreme cold " at 6F make me laugh ..haha....come on... Up here we can get easily -25c / -30c during an entire month and this is cold but not extreme. I have seen worst ... Well , some Prime owners here gets a remote start engine installed + auxiliary module. The remote start put the car in ready mode then the auxiliary module activate the HV/EV button. Problem solved. And yes the car must be unplugged.

so, the car cannot be plugged in, and cannot have too much battery charge?

meaning, you're basically driving it like a gen4 all winter?

 

I don't understand this relationship. Is 99% OK? How does the battery SOC affect the remote start?

 

maybe the only way the engine fires is to charge the battery
