What is your miles/kWh (total average electricity consumption) on the "Drive Monitor 2"

    According to the manual, The Drive Monitor 2 on Prius PRIME shows following EV information:

    Total average electricity consumption
    Indicates the total average electricity consumption since last reset until it is reset again.*1
    *1: When “Electricity Consumption Reset” (→P. 235) is performed, the data of the total electricity consumption is deleted.

    If you have not done "Electricity Consumption Reset", the number in miles/kWh represents life time average for the EV MODE drive. From my reading PC threads, the traction battery is used 23% to 85% for EV MODE drive which means 5.46kWh of the traction battery is used for EV (.62*8.8). If this is the case, the EPA rated EV range of 25 miles would mean 4.58miles/kWh (25/5.46).

    Mine is 4.5 miles/kWh for 28,900 miles, which means I am doing slightly less than EPA rating. :oops:

    I can take a photo later but it’s at 13.8kWh/100km over 6,000km.


    4.53miles/kWh over 3,800 miles.

    Just for laughs, mpg over 5,000km (I reset it once) is about 0.4L/100km or 588mpg.

    Have you been monitoring total kWh used for charging your battery and gallons of gas used to fill the tank thus far? I don't think you can find those data anywhere in the car. If you have those two numbers you can calculate the actual mpg for HV MODE portion of your drive.

    My cumulative total kWh used for charging so far is 2,539kWh and total gas used so far is 356gal. Assuming 6.5kWh is needed for full charge using my L1 and 5.46kWh is the real amount that went into the battery. Wall charge is providing 84% (5.46/6.5) of kWh to the battery. Meaning actual kWh in battery was 2133kWh (84% * 2539).

    Lifetime average of 4.5miles/kWh would make the miles of EV MODE driven from the wall charge to be: 9597 miles (4.5*2133)
    This makes my HV MODE driven portion to be 19343 miles (28940-9597).
    Thus, my cumulative real HV MODE mileage is 54.3 mpg (19343/356). (this compared to 84.0 mpg shown on ODO mileage)
    My average EV range is 24.57mile (4.5*5.46)

    Right on with the EPA rating of 25 miles EV range with 54 mpg city/hwy combined.

    I have a short commute (part time) that is only 6.1 round trip and speed averages about 30 mph. My daily m/kWh for the commute averages about 7.2.

    You must have higher EV ratio than I for sure. If I don't have to drive during coldest three months of the winter, my average would be higher. In Dec-Feb, I would be lucky to get 3.5miles/kWh on average. The kicker is that when I compare EV and HV portion of my drive for the cost of electricity and gas I spent so far, I get following.

    EV MODE $456 for 9597miles or 4.75 cents/mile (average rate of electricity paid $0.1796/kWh)
    HV MODE $861 for 19343miles or 4.45 cents/mile (average cost of gas paid $2.4185/gal)

    I reset mine when I got it, so these numbers are all mine. The heat is really pulling mine down. I had been around 5.6. Now the A/C runs all the time and often very hard. I even had to run it on the way to work this morning at 6:30, but it's sitting at 5.4 right now for today. That'll change when I head home. The "feels like" is close to 100.

    4.5 miles/kWh and I don't recall if I've ever reset it. The car has 8,200 miles. That is for the months of Jan-May 2019 with a few days in June. About half winter driving, about half non-winter.

    5.2 mi/kWh. On a full EV tank, we have EER of 36.6mi and 36.2 with estimated AC use.

    Don't worry. Your ODO is still only 3K. The average miles/kWh can improve in short order. Mine is at ~29K miles, it won't budge with small day to day change any more.

    Don't feel too bad. I didn't take pictures of EV stats for the previous owner of my car. I should check that. But I doubt they ever plugged in. Only one month was over 50 mpg and that was barely over. Most were in the 30's and 40's. I feel like someone who's rescued an abused animal.

    Mines 3.8kmi/kWh at 13500 mi.... I only got the car a couple months ago.

    My personal average since then is ~5.3mi/kWh ( averaging last couple of months). I'm getting better month after month.

    Car predicts 36mi of range on a full charge most days

    Even though our weather is warmer, my average is going down this month. A frequent EV run for me this month is 27 miles to/from the animal shelter, and about 2/3 of this is interstate at 65 mph. The traction battery depletes more quickly at that speed. I typically get there and back with about 15% left on the battery. When I did the trip using surface streets (took a bit longer and not as smooth a ride for the cat passengers), I had over 20% left, but that was a single data point.

    There's really no trick to it.

    You're getting slower month after month.

    If you really want to pinch those expensive electrons - - Drive as slow as you possibly can.(y)

    I go about 10-15 over depending onthe road, but I accelerate slower and brake slower. That's where my gains were. I think my limit will be around 5.7. Any lower than that and you become "that guy" holding up traffic. Also, if a light turns yellow at an inopportune time, I'll end up wasting braking energy to the rotors

    But, in looking back, I see that they did have several months of over 50 mpg. Apparently, they just hardly ever plugged it in.

    Hey, those numbers are very close to what I get during winter!:cry: Yap, 0.0 miles/kWh represents no plug-in entire month. I did that during this past Feb.

    That is probably NOT the ideal way to treat a Li-Ion battery pack. They have a 'happy' temp range and the Prime has battery heating elements just for winter usage.

    And while you're plugging in during the dead of winter, ideally you have a block heater on the engine to make it a little happier about waking up during extreme cold weather.

    I understand your point on taking care of the battery, but if Prime's Li-ion battery requires constant charging during winter to keep it happy, how are the Li-ion batteries on regular non plug-in Prius taken care of during winter??? Also, I thought about installing an engine heater on my car but after reading quite a few threads on this topic, I decided it is not necessary. After all, I have never owned a car with an engine block heater in the past, still did OK.

    Well, the gas price got so low past winter, and the electricity rate went up. With diminished EV range in the winter, I was paying 20-30% more to run on EV than HV. Not only that, even if I did nightly charge and wanted to run on EV mode, the ICE would come on anyway for heating.
