Has anyone here ordered the 2007 model Prius besides me? From the dealership I ordered from and based on the package I want it should arrive around November or so (from waiting list). I don't mind the wait as by that time I will be ready financially to get it then. Also plan to take it for a drive to TX for Thanksgiving this year if my model does come in on time. I will have to keep check with the dealership to find out, as well as getting better tires for it as well. I was told I will get the VIN three weeks before the car arrives.

Pretty much from what the salesguy told me was that the only change in the 07 models was the LED-tail and brake lights and the HID headlamps, and the interior dash (and the Touring model). Other than that not any other changes.

There's no option in the profile setting here at PC for the 07 Prius yet, but im sure as more folks start getting them then we can update it at that time.

Also, for the first 500 miles would it be wise to not drive the Prius at constant speeds (interstate driving) and just stick to more local roads and highways for the first 500 miles? My brother-in-law was telling me this last week and wanted to see if that's what I should do. In past cars it was pretty much the norm to take it easy driving in order for the valves and rings to seat properly during the break in period.

I am not sure if the 2007 models will qualify for the tax credit (and yes I know it will be reduced after the end of this month) but I have the patience to wait until Nov to get my new ride so I am not sweating on the tax credit issue. Kinda like waiting for Christmas morning. I also plan to invite my sister to fly here from TX so that she can go with me when the day arrives and then drive down to TX together. I'm hoping for an awesome holiday season this year! :)

You are going to have a great holiday ! :)

By the way, when do you have to actually pay for the car (except the $500 down payment)? The day you pick up the car?

I have an '07 on order too! Spoke to dealer a few days ago and she says we're still looking at late Oct/early Nov. I wouldn't qualify for full tax credit so the timing is ok, but I am hoping the partial credit is available to '07 buyers - its still a nice chunk of change.

As far as the break in period, here are a couple of threads that may help:
    break in period?
    Break In - any recommendations?
How did you "BREAK IN" your prius?

Correct, you don't have to worry about the finance part until the car actually comes in.

Unfortunately, the 2007 MY will not qualify for the tax credit. As far as not being able to order an 07MY yet...that is a joke!!! I have been placing orders for 2007MY Prius since the second week of July! Not sure what else your dealer is telling you, but I would call around!

Sure it will qualify for a tex credit (although past the end of november this will be merely 50% of the current one), the government does not care about model numbers, just compliance, give Toyota some time to get the paperwork in order (looks like it's basically a matter of xeroxing some docs, changing the year, vin, etc and sending it off to the gov)...

This time last year I did a Prius test drive of a 2005. Everyone expected the 2006's to start arriving the beginning of October. I was in no hurry and wanted to wait until the Spring of 2006 to buy a Prius. I wanted to take advantage of the tax credit and wait until after winter weather had passed. As the months passed the dealer kept pushing back the delivery dates of the 2006. They did not see any 2006's until the last week in December 2005. They were still receiving 2005's at the end of December as well!

I was able to negotiate $1500 off of MSRP to take a 2005 pkg 6 - with delivery on 1/2/2006 to qualify for the Fed tax credit.

So, don't be surprised if the 2007's don't arrive until late in the year. And, if you don't have to have a 2007 you may find some dealers who will discount off of MSRP to get the late arriving 2006's sold.

I was on the wait list for a 2006 Prius #3. I am in SoCal.

Then yesterday Power Toyota emailed me about their first incoming 2007's, Three Silver, #2, almost same price as 2006 #3 but with extra VSC, and scheduled to arrive anytime after Sept 19. I called Power immediatley, and placed my deposit earlier today; I was the second in line, one more car left as of noon today.

I did call 3 other SoCal dealers yesterday about when they will get 2007's. 2 were still allocating 2006's, and 1 said they may start allocating 2007's on Sept. 19th. But none has anything on "incoming" log.

Not sure if Power Toyota is blowing smoke, or they get preferential allocation from Toyota corporate, but I figure I have nothing to lose, and everything to gain, by trying to get a 2007 before Sept. 30.

Hope this helps those of you looking to get a 2007 before Sept. 30.

Just drive it normal.. and what I mean by that is don't go over the edge and push it beyond normal means...
Don't be afraid to accelerate, stop go full freeway speeds.. just don't floor it to see how fast you can reach 70 or let your teenager borrow it for a while!

I took mine up to 90 a couple of times.. but only because it was so smooth and without the transmission shifting "its a CVT" I was going 90 before I realized it!

    Mine drive perfectly.

I don't know if there is still any truth to the old idea to break a car in hard if you want it to perform well, engines are built different now, but I kinda took that stance anyway and I feel both of mine drive excellent.

I orderd my 2007 this past Saturday. More specificly, I put a deposit on a 07 Mag. Gray, pacakage 6. I have not seen anythng regarding new LED tail lights or changes to the interior dash and I have been searching the internet looking for information. --Does anyone else know anything about these proported changes?

My Prius is already in asembly and I have 8 digits of the VIN and the local dealers stock number. The dealer said the car is in "A status" which means it is in assembly. when it changes to "F" or "S" status (I forget which), it will mean it is prepared for shipment and then change status again whin it arrives on the Pacific coast for transit to my local dealer here in Colorado. The time frame is supposted to be about 4 weeks out.

Just enough time for me to learn all about my new high-tech car!

Are any of you who've ordered 2007's planning on doing a trade-in on them?

If so, how do they handle the trade? Do they evaluate it when the car comes in, or when
    the order is placed??

    Thanks!

I have no trade, but I don't suspect anything differently, then a typical proctologist exam.

I do have a question about everyone's ordering process. I thought for Prius, and probably all Toyota's, dealers do not really order cars. Instead, Toyota planners in Torrance, CA decide what colors, what package, and what quantity to produce, and when. When the cars arrive in port (along coastal LA), then it is Toyota sales (probably in Torrance, CA too) to decide what cars go to whom (regions, distributors, dealers) base on previous years performance, customer surveys, etc.. I know Hondas did/do the same, and even allocated more cars to dealers who paid bribes. They were busted and people fired/in jail over it.

Because of this allocation system, many Toyota dealers sell Camry's and Corollas cheap to drive up volume, so they can get more cars, especially the hot/expensive cars, for next year. And this allocation system creates a caste system, with mega dealers getting bigger/richer, and smaller dealers getting smaller/poorer.

So my question is, can you really order a Toyota base on your desires? Or are you really on a waiting list, and just hoping your dealer will receive a car per your desire?

We just ordered an '07 Prius this week, silver, package #2. Here in Eastern Massachusetts, the dealer told us there would be a 3 - 4 month wait.

We were told that trade-ins are not evaluated until the new car comes in. We were also told that we would pay MSRP as of the delivery date, not as of the order date. Finally, our salesman explained the "ordering" process as follows: there is no way to actually order a specific car, instead you wait until the dealership gets a car that matches your specifications.

Hey SmithFamily, thanks for confirming what I thought about Toyota "ordering" process. What color #2 did you order, that needs 3-4 months wait? You may want to check with larger dealer. In So. CA, top dealers get 15-20 every 2 weeks, while smaller ones get 1-2 every 2 weeks. I got an update from my dealer yesterday, first batch 2007 have arrived at Long Beach port, should be heading to dealers in the next 3-5 days. Second batch is arriving soon, delivery around Sept. 30, no guarantees. Most early cars are silver, with a few black, blue and red in there.

CA to MA (or ME) is a long way, so that probably adds 2 extra week to your wait. Hope you get your car soon. CK

I placed an order for a Gray '07 Package #6 Touring this week and was told by the dealer it can be anywhere from 3-6 months. (I'm on the East Coast.) The only package available on the Touring Edition is #2 in this area, so the dealer had to special order it. He said the "3-6 months" was more of a CYA range, but I'm hoping the car comes sooner.

Just got back from ordering mine. Got a 2007 optional package #3. As you'd expect the dealer numbers for ordering as to options and packages are different then what's on the Toyota website or even n the brochure.

I had to pay full sticker price, but also without a bit of the usual back and forth over the value of the trade-in. I actually got a couple hundred bucks more than book value, maybe because traded in a very clean low milage car. I had over 20 in transit cars to pick from plus one I could have driven off with end of this week, but wrong color and a full package #6 which I didn't want.

They give you a initial trade-in value with the usual reapraisal clause once you take delivery , which is typical in my experence.

All in all very pleased with the transaction so far. Not a bit pushy, no attempt to get to buy what I didn't want, actually bent over backs to find exactly the model I wanted, and I lucked out grabbing one that was already built. :D
