While sitting in front of my son’s school today, my 2011 Toyota Prius’ “check hybrid system” warning light and check engine light came on. I’m not sure why or what’s wrong. My Prius now doesn’t accelerate the way it normally does. I what should I do?
take it to a local auto parts store and have them read the code for you or your other option is to drive to the dealer and have them look at it. It's possible that the hybrid battery voltages are starting to get low (maybe one or more). I'm not sure if an auto parts store will have a good enough computer to test battery voltages though, so you would need to get a bluetooth obd-II to read the battery voltages (google search as there are many options that work) . They are relatively inexpensive too, $20-40 on amazon. But from a timing standpoint, your options are store, dealer, or friend that has one. Good luck.
Just curious what you mean by this? Does something plugged in have a negative impact on the car? Gawd I hope not, i had left my BT reader plugged in for like a year or two. Whoops! TBH, i kinda just forgot it was plugged in for a long time. I have had it unplugged for a couple months now and leave my other scanner in seat pocket.
I had a scan gauge constantly connected, and it was apparently the source of repeated HSI warnings, coupled with brake warning lights and return-to-defaults brake behaviour. Disconnected, problem stopped. Mechanic noted a loose connection while testing with Techstream at dealership (for the above problem), suggested I try disconnecting.
+1 on the suggestion to grab the codes from from the incident. Was the inverter recall service done to the car some years back?
Similar to Rays question....any chance you had it in neutral with the AC running? After recording any fault codes (if possible, and if not possible, then so be it): When all else fails, put it in drive, hold foot on brake and give it a bunch of "go pedal" to force charge the battery. After a few minutes of that, disconnect the 12v battery for a minute or two then reconnect it. Start the car again. It may take two presses of the power button to clear the alarms caused by disconnecting the 12v battery. Put it in drive and see what happens.
