I have everyhting installed in my '05 and it works great but once you start moving it turns the DVD portion off and the screen reverts back to the MDF energy. Kelley from Coastal emailed me to ask the specifics and show concern but I wasnt sure if this is normal or maybe I'm not hitting the right buttons? I dont have factory NAV either. Anyone else have this problem?
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(F8L @ Aug 20 2006, 10:56 PM) </div> I'm not an expert on the features by any means...but just curious..do you have your daylight switch turned on/off? That changed my display screen drastically once I was in drive mode.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Tatania @ Aug 28 2006, 11:25 AM) </div> I have tried that but its not a dimming issue it just flat out switches to another mode once I start moving My replacement part from Coastal should be here today so I'll test it and report back.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(F8L @ Aug 20 2006, 11:56 PM) </div> Ok. I just want to be sure I understand the question. You are trying to watch a DVD on the MFD while the car is MOVING, and it cuts out, right?
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Jim1eye @ Aug 28 2006, 01:12 PM) </div> Correct.
By law (at least in California), one is not allowed to view DVD entertainment program while the vehcile is in motion. In fact, such DVD screen should not be installed where it is visible to the driver unless a Park-interlock is installed. That is my understanding of the law. You may be in violation of a similar law in your state.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(ceric @ Aug 28 2006, 01:18 PM) </div> Very familiar with the law. I did high end car audio for 10yrs and had video systems in my cars back when you had to run VCRs, inverters and tvs on goosenecks lol. On very long trips it is a nice feature to have when you know the problems associated with it. IE I have a lil cardboard flap I tape to the dash to keep myself from viewing it because I dont trust myself. Been in enough near crashes to realize I cannot overcome the draw of a cool scene or a hot girl on the screen Laws and "educating me" aside. I would like it to work while driving. Most aftermarket systems have ways to get around this and with the mode switch button it is very simple and fast to switch the screens so should I get pulled over it'll be hard to prove I had the screen on. I mean why would I when the passanger has a portable DVD player in her lap So please dont think I'm going to get drunk and drive home from a club while watching porn and crash into a family of 5. lol
I agree...... I also would like to know if any of the lockpicks allow DVD while the car is in motion, and I don't live in California ....
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Rangerdavid @ Aug 28 2006, 09:20 PM) </div> I installed the ultimate lockpick 1 in my '05 Prius this last Friday. It does allow play of DVDs while in motion. However, an interesting side effect is that the MPG bars do not register when the DVD is playing. If you watch the DVD for an hour or so, then switch back to the consumption screen, there are no MPG bars, only the braking energy leaves (is that what they are?). The instantaneous and cummulative MPG and miles (for that tankful) are still tracked, but the bars that normally show up every 5 minutes do not show up. Hope this answers the questions about this. Now I have this NAV and I agree override unit that I purchased about a year ago from Coastal that I have no use for. I've offered to trade it to Coastal for credit for something else I am getting, but no word yet. Any other ideas????
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Rick Grahn @ Aug 28 2006, 08:31 PM) </div> Then it appears that this mod electronically "cuts" the purple speed sensor wire that affects the BT.
F8L - anyword if you got your DVD to work while moving? i want to pick up one of these ultimate lockpicks for my non-nav 2005 prius and want to make sure a video input will work while moving (trying to hook up an aftermarket nav). let me know. thanks! j
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Jigzibit @ Aug 31 2006, 02:46 PM) </div> Oops, I updated the old thread but forgot about this one. The new unit Coastal sent me works perfect. The DVD will now play while the car is moving Coastal sent me out a new unit as soon as they heard I had a problem and before I even had a chance to contact them (they heard through another customer). Great customer service for me
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(F8L @ Aug 31 2006, 06:01 PM) </div> Great, I'm glad to hear it works!! NOW, if they will just come out with one for the 2006......................
Wouldnt' you be better off with a portable DVD player in the glovebox? It'd be easier to view for the passenger and less visible if not invisible for the driver.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(molgrips @ Sep 1 2006, 07:43 AM) </div> I have one. Thats what I use to play the DVDs. They are not very condusive to relaxation though since you have to hold it in your lap the whole time to watch it. So I use it mainly for rear seat passangers who would otherwise have to lean to the side to watch the tiny dash screen.
