crap shoot on a 2012 v?

    Im a gen 2 prius owner with 301k miles on it currently...im a day are so away from pulling the trigger on a local prius v with 154k milles for 5k dollars...im looking for some really helpful feedback here from v owners ..I checked the dealer records on this v and there is nothing but 4 records from the dealer..The owner has stated he bought it new and for 154k miles hasn't had to do anything but oil changes and tires...this is either a really good thing are concerning to me as im guessing things will start needing replacing...My biggest fear is the oil consumption issue as I have read the v starts to consume oil with these type of miles..The owner has stated it doesn't burn oil...Is this a crap shoot on my end are is there people with 2012 prius wagons who lucked out and never had this issue?

    also I I wanted to add about the head gasket problems..i almost wish this had already happened so I knew it was taken care of...is there people with 2012 high mileage v that never had these oil and gasket issues?

    The price is right assuming it does not desperately need anything right now. I think it depends a little on how many miles per year you expect to drive. Sounds like 25-30k so I might expect both batteries within a couple of years. That could be $2500 for new. Now you need fluids, plugs and an egr cleaning which can be pricey compared to the gen2, primarily due to labor. Could be $1000 or more if not done together. But if the car looks good and drives well go for it.

    the fact that the owner didn't do the major service at 120k makes me suspect they hardly did any service.

    rode her hard, put her up wet, and wants to dump her before the crash.

    Yes u know honestly il keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best as far as the batteries go...my main concern is the oil consumption.ive had many toyotas in the past and always had to add oil..I have had a lexus rx300 and was adding a quart every 500 miles it was a nightmare I dont want to end up like that again...also this head gasket issue worries me..I would honestly feel comfort if I found some people with the same car who never had these problems but it seems most do with higher mileage

    He was a salesman and doesnt know much about prius except that its good on gas..I honestly just think he was lucky and nothing ever came up...but yeah id rather see a long list of records then none to be honest

    There seems to be a small number of head gasket problems compared to battery and oil use issues. Taxis and route drivers have reached 300-400k miles in v’s without much short of a battery. Some believe a clogged egr cooler can cause the head gasket failure so moving on that may be prudent.

    Are there any symptoms that would reveal the need for an EGR cleaning? Is it solely based on mileage?

    When it is totally plugged it will throw a code. Lots of threads on gen3 egrs here and many with conflicting info. The theory is the fuel mixture is impacted causing a hotter head resulting in head gasket damage.

    thanks for the feedback,i have opted to keep the beast I know, my gen 2 prius.it has served me well and I think il run her another year...
