There was a thread on this but it seems to have died. But someone posted having this exact same sound. I am wondering if anyone knows what it is and should it be fixed? It is coming from the drivers side of the car under the relay and fuse box. It has been happening for about 8 years and is intermittent. Does not seen to impact operation of the vehicle that I have noticed in any way... except is it very annoying. You hear it when the gas motor is not running.. so idling at stop light, etc. But not all of the time. Just wondering if it is something that needs to be fixed or is it normal? Thanks Harvey Link to youtube video:
That's around where the inverter coolant pump is. Maybe pull the fuse on that and see if it stops. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
That's not coming from under the fuse box. It's coming from the 3 way coolant valve. When it fails, you'll get a check engine light
From your comment, are you saying the valve in this state is not an issue until I have a check engine light?
Thanks... may I ask why is the value doing this to begin with? Is it suppose to do this in this manner?
It's not suppose to sound like that no. You can change it before the check engine light. How's your coolant look or when's last it was changed? Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
The valve is trying to get into the correct position. Since it can NOT, you are hearing that sound. If the valve was working correctly, you would hear nothing. You should get the valve replaced soon b/c something else could cause the CEL to get triggered, but you would never know, b/c the CEL is currently on due to the 3-way coolant control valve. Read this post to see if replacing the valve is something you can DIY. If the valve is in the wrong position, you won't have heat.
