People target prius (I Think)

Yes they do target the Prius and Tesla's. They are jealous or mental, they pull in front of you and slow down and flip you off.

I was parked in by an SUV on propose and had to climb in though the passenger side. I was parked away from everyone.
Get mocked at work for driving a Prius, but don't care at 55 cents a mile reimbursement when traveling to clients.

Co workers are jealous since I plug in at work. But as a top performer I get free electricity.

No damage yet.

My daughter got some door dings on the 2007 Prius at school that look intentional. Also a mirror was damaged.

I pulled into a parking lot one day and chose not to park next to a big truck with a Large "I Hate Prius" sticker...

 

Wow, what low-life dirt bags (figuratively and literally)!

 

Any tips on how to at least minimize the damage? I seem to find a new ding or scratch of my Prime about once a month.

 

Fortunately, I have not experienced any vandalism like that on my cars. Is it Prius specific thing? Or continuing Toyota Bashing of ~10 years ago? So sad to see irrational behavior of people like that.

 

the only thing I've seen is some people applying the stick on door trim protectors

but if people are intentionally damaging your car, you'd probably need a lot of dash cams.

 

So it's fairly logical to assume most vehicles parking there are single occupant thus parking in the last spot where no one can park to the right of you would greatly limit the possibility of door dings happening. Also, parking in the back of the lot helps. Added benefit: more steps in your day!

At work, I try to park next to a infrequently used handicap spot that even when used has more spacing for wheelchair access.

 

After driving beaters for many years, I was nervous about leaving my first new car in public parking lots, when it was still without any blemishes. In fact, I slept in the car the first few nights of its initial road trip from the Pacific NW to the East Coast. Finally, when I got to somewhere near Council Bluffs, Iowa, I decided to put my fears aside and get a motel room to get a good night's sleep and have a shower. After checking in, I was looking for a good place to park the car and saw a bunch of what looked like work trucks at one end of the lot and not much of anything anywhere else. Also, there were a couple of good old boys hanging out near their trucks having a smoke, so of course I chose to park at the other end of the lot. I do remember checking that no one else was parked beside my car before I went to sleep, probably around midnight, and that's the first thing I checked when I got up shortly after dawn. Seeing no one parked near me, I assumed there was nothing to worry about, so I didn't think anything more of it. Then when I went to load the car an hour or 2 later, I noticed a nice scratch and small dent on the passenger side door, where another vehicle's door had slammed against mine, apparently. I actually thought about taking the car to a dealer to see how much it would cost to get repaired, but then began to realize this was only the beginning and probably what I should have expected driving through hostile territory. I guess the only upside is that I was probably less upset than I would otherwise have been when I subsequently put a few more scuffs and scrapes on the car myself.

 

To be fair, a big chunk of hate Prius owners brought upon themselves, although you'd think it's all in the past. Canada is behind... again...

 

When I parked the very first car (new) I bought with my own money, next to the older car that mom & dad sent me to college with, the contrast was astounding, but something I hadn't really noticed earlier. The college car had 2 or 3 door dings per inch along the full length of both sides, and suddenly looked horrid.

That new car had rubber bumper strips along the sides, and remained ding-free for 3 months, until the first time it traveled back to campus (far away from here) to visit friends still in school. Despite the protective strips, it collected 2 dings in 2 days. I even witnessed the first through a restaurant window, some parents seemed to go out of their way to park angled and extremely close so that their kids in the rear seat could fling the rear door open hard into the adjacent (my) car, in a very sparsely used lot. Of course, rear doors have pointed edges designed almost intentionally to defeat those side protection strips.

2nd new car, 9 months. 3rd car, 2 years. First Prius, no door dings at all in three years, but one rear bumper imprint as the front car in a chain reaction crash. Second Prius, back down to just 3 months, from a giant quad-cab pickup with AB plates while doing bicycle event support in Vancouver BC.

 

I have never found this to be the case - traveled in my car throughout the US.

 

I think this is a stretch. Hostile territory defined as "places you don't normally travel?"

However, Council Bluffs, like any other town, has its rough areas. I live across the river. What hotel were you staying in?

 

I drive 32-35 mph in town in both vehicles that I use on a daily basis. I am 3x more likely to be tailgated in my Gen 3 as I am my wife’s Edge.

I specifically try to avoid the highway, as there are sufficient roads to travel most everywhere I need to go without getting on the highway.

 

Some people think they are a Prius. When they are one of the big guys on the road. I was riding my bike when I happened upon this white Prius. I did not add anything to this photo. I blacked out the license plate but the image is untouched.

 

As Larry the Cable Guy would say; "now that's funny right there."

 

I view all the dings ans scratches as Mensur scars (think Heidelberg), and one way of avoiding them is never to park close to other vehicles but if that's impossible to achieve then be very selective (i.e. favour something high-end e.g. RollsRoyce, Bentley, etc. etc.)

 

This happened to me on a freeway once. These people are mentally disturbed.
