Has anyone successfully done the swap for an aftermarket? Looking at upgrading the radio to something with wireless CarPlay/AA. Here is my build list so far: Kenwood Excelon DDX9906XR - Only 720p aftermarket receiver with wireless CP/AA Maestro RR - Keep steering wheel/other factory head unit functions Maestro SAT-TO2/TO2 T-harness TOYK932GB Dash Kit - make it all fit Here are the snags I see: I need to order everything as if for the base prius as none of the manufacturers have separate "prime" options. The prius maestro kit doesn't show prius with navigation compatibility. Has anyone successfully done something similar in a plus and been successful? Otherwise it's a dash mount which doesn't feel as sexy...
There are people who have swapped out for a navigation aftermarket unit. I've swapped out the head unit for an aftermarket single din unit.
As far as the head unit swap out, the only snag was finding out that steering wheel controls on the right side (used for car information) don't work when you take out the stock radio. Metra Axxess ASWC-1 and Axxess AX-TOY28SWC was later used to get those steering wheel controls back. There's quite a bit of space behind the factory radio to fit things, so that's a plus in the Prius.
Did you ever manage to get them back? Also do you have a parts list of all the harnesses, etc, that you used? I am looking to swap mine out asap for one with car play/ android auto
I called Maestro today and they said they don't have anything compatible with the Prius Prime. I'm hoping that is a company line to cover themselves and the RR works out, when do you plan on trying it out?
These two work together. Metra Axxess ASWC-1 and Axxess AX-TOY28SWC. The extra harness makes the install easier.
For some reason, a lot of the "what fits my car" information isn't for the Prime. But if you have the standard radio in the Prius Prime Plus, the parts are compatible that would be for the regular Prius. If you are using the factory speaker wire in the doors and changing out speakers, Metra 72-8104 Speaker Connector works. And here is the aftermarket radio harness: Metra 70-1761 Radio Wiring Harness.
I haven't found a technical reason that it wouldn't. I am waiting on a good sale on the 720p Kenwood from someplace that also has a good return policy.
