I don't. I bought the Torque Pro app, then downloaded Hybrid Assistant since it was free and being touted by some members here. I haven't even looked at the Dr. Prius app.

Back to the reconditioning of mcbrunnhilde's car.

Sunday, 6:15 am - screen is flickering between 236v and 237v as it continues to charge.

Sunday, 10:15 am - 239v. Since this charge phase doesn't require additional balancing I'll switch to the final discharge when I see the same voltage for about 3 hours.

Sunday, 12 noon - Still 239v. I'll check it at 1:00 pm. If it's still at 239v I'll start the last discharge, this time to 84v.

Sunday, 7:15 pm - Discharge to 84v finished before I got out to the garage after dinner. Prolong system was idle and the charge rebound was all the way up to 140v. Switched to the charger for the final session. Car should be finished by the time I get up Tuesday morning.

After it's done and cooled off I'll take a look with the Torque Pro and Hybrid Assistant apps to see if anything looks out of the ordinary or one of the cell blocks looks weak compared to the others.

    Monday, 3:30 pm. - wavering between 239v and 240v.
Monday, 5:30 pm - a solid 240v. If it stays at 240 until 8:00, I'm done. If it goes to 241 I can leave it and go to bed, unplugging it in the morning.

    Either way, (y)

You still have time to edit to 240 or 241 volts;).

    But looks good(y).

    No worries ;).

Just trying to keep the data consistent and the FUD spreaders of the technology at bay:).

Good info in this thread on the reconditioning process (y).

    Monday, 8:15 pm - Steady at 240v. ;)

Just finished unhooking the car from the Prolong system and the battery can rest overnight. I'll leave the 12v on the Battery Tender until the car gets picked up later this week.

If you want to use your Prius for some more years you better purchase your own set. Regular re-conditioning (2-4 times a year) is recommended by HA.

Thanks for posting all the data, srellim. Great job!

The Prolong deluxe kit arrived last week. I installed the harness on Saturday. I've never removed interior trim before. It's interesting how many different types of fasteners are used. Thanks to everyone posting their experiences here, and the excellent instructions with photos on the Hybrid Automotive site, the installation went very well. I plan to do a full reconditioning over 4 days during Memorial Day weekend. I'll post my findings.

If you follow the HA directions be aware it can take up to a full week for a full reconditioning. Once you get into it, though, you can kind of plan ahead once you see how long your charge sessions are taking. It is possible you may only have time enough to do the first two discharges in those four days. Three charges and two discharges will help; you just won't get the full benefit the extra charge and discharge will give you. If that happens, budget a full week the next time you do it.

Thanks for the info, srellim. I spent a couple of hours reading the first several pages of this thread and getting a feel for other PC members' reconditioning experiences. Per the advice of Jeff and George at Hybrid, if time is an issue, I see I can skip the balancing after charge 2 and charge 3 without sacrificing much benefit. I also found many members recommend a long, final charge/balance "soak" which could be in the 30 hour range. I'll do the best I can with the time I have. I may be able to borrow another car so the Prius can have enough time to get the full treatment.
Finally, I knew about not running the vehicle for a minimum of 30 minutes (60 preferred) after the final charge/balance, but jerrymildred's experience (post 160) and JC91006's recommendation (post 156) to discharge before driving are extremely valuable. I plan to discharge so as not to accidentally charge a battery at 100% SoC, especially if I do that 30+ hour soak.

I am SOOOOOO grateful to srellim234 for using his Prolong system on my car!! If I were going to keep the car until it dies, I would definitely purchase the system for myself...but I drive for Uber (off and on), and my 2004 can't be used for that after the end of this year. After filling up, the mileage on this tank is several miles per gallon more than I've been getting. I'll see what the next few tanks are like and let y'all know, since this could be a very welcome bonus when reconditioning an "impaired" battery! My brother-in-law (who helped me do the drop-off and pick-up) has a 2007 with 198,000+ miles that he purchased from the original owner. Maybe I can convince him to buy the system for his own car and allow me to use it too! :)

So you are aware of my symptoms, I noticed last summer that when I started the car with the A/C on, it would go down to two bars within about 1/2 mile. It would fairly quickly get back up to 6 bars, but it got so it was happening all the time, not just when under a load. It would also drain pretty quickly when sitting in line at Costco getting gas. I was gone for almost 3 weeks in February, and the battery level wasn't too bad when I started it up. However, I turned it off when I got to the mailbox about 2 houses down, and when I started it back up, it was down to 2 bars already. That's what got me really concerned about the health of my battery, since I'm going on a long road trip in June/July. A friend's 2007 Prius had the same symptom, and the battery eventually just quit altogether at around 175,000 miles...so I posted a thread inquiring whether or not I should proactively replace it even though I'd never had any codes. That's when I heard about the Prolong system, and I'm now a true believer!!

On a side note (for those of you who don't know), the 2004-05 models don't go past 299,999 on the odometer. My car has over 295,000 miles, which means my odometer would cease functioning in the middle of my road trip...and that was NOT acceptable to me. I just went to a dealer and they said they were aware of the issue, but can't do anything about it, so of course I came to Priuschat to find out what to do. I discovered that Texas Hybrid Batteries can retrofit my 2004 with a 2006+ odometer/light display, so I'll be able to have an accurate mileage reading along with my newly healthy battery! (Doin' a happy dance!!!)
