How to get OK MPG in the Fusion/Cmax hybrids

    I still assume there is something really wrong with your car, that isn't likely true with the bulk of the fusion hybrids out there. I can definitely understand your frustration with ford, I would be royally pissed off by now.

    I would assume on the highway on long trips with cruze control you should be able to beat Wayne's numbers on the highway since the fusion is more aerodynamic than the c-max. I have a hilly drive so I would expect a well behaved fusion to do better on my drive if it could coast down the hills engine off, but use a higher load up hill. On flat and level though being in ev should hurt your fuel economy at highway speeds as you need to charge the battery back up.

    The possibilities are the battery is not properely charging, the engine is not going to the right temperature and staying there - too rich of a mixture fouling your plugs, etc. I don't really know what is wrong, but something is deeply wrong with your ride.

    Everyone but Ford agrees with you! Just going to wait until spring and see what happens in warmer weather. Of course by then it will be past 12,000 miles so no chance for a LL.

    You could always park in front of the dealer with that 47/47/47 sign and cross out 47 and write in 35! Call the local news station - I'm sure someone would be interesting in covering it.

    I would if the dealer were asses, but they were behind me 100%, and they can't do anything more to help, otherwise would have already done so.

    However, across the back window,

    Dont buy the 47 Hype

    Buy a Toyota Instead

    Really, if all that was wrong with Romney was the 47% He would have done fine.

    The more viral stuff to me was
    Self deportation
    Attacks on big bitd
    Dog on the roof

    It all adds up to not being anything like the voters.

    Ford c-max does most of the car stuff right
    Handling
    Acceleration
    Comfort.

    They need to drop the 47 though and put a more realistic number out there. They also need to change to the customer is right, and fix or buy back the c-max and fusion hybrids.

    Just had the Fusion Hybrid for a week. I was up to 56mpg on an 80 mile trip on moderately congested suburban roads. I drove in the same manner I drive our Toyota hybrids. It was a nice day so I had climate control off. Otherwise, nothing special in terms of driving except for anticipating the frequent stoplights with coasting and gentle braking. I was impressed, unless the trip computer was high by 25%, which I suppose is possible. Many more frequent short trips with kids and climate control dropped it down to 50mpg by the end of the week. Still, overall, pretty typical of my driving. A hair better than the Prius V I drove, which is quite good if the computers are remotely accurate. Previous drivers of this vehicle had averaged 44mpg, though it's not clear how long since the historical average was reset. The vehicle had over 9000 miles on it and I increased it only a couple tenths, so I estimate that was many thousands of miles since the reset. Getting the C-Max next.

    My Dad has a C-Max and he designed and manufactures grill covers to improve the performance with the scan gauge and manages to get very respectable gas mileage. You can see his data on fuelly: Silver C-MAX (Ford C-Max) | Fuelly

    He loves his car, and I love the trunk sensor thing. That would be wonderful on the Prius. We have competitions all the time regarding gas mileage. :)

    Getting about the same numbers in the C-Max as I got in the Fusion Hybrid after over 200 miles. If the fuel economy readouts are remotely accurate, both are a hair better than the Prius V I tested, at least in my typical driving, but not as good as our gen 3 Prius. Honestly, though I've only had it a week, I like the C-Max better than our Prius. It's more fun to drive, quicker, bigger, quieter and looks sharper (in my opinion). Aside from fuel economy, the turning radius seems inferior to our Prius. It's also much more expensive, at least in the loaded SEL trim they sent me. I'd love to have a C-Max Energi in my garage. Well, I'd rather have a Tesla, but I don't think either one is forthcoming unless some kindly auto manufacturer wants to do a long term loan for publicity on family friendly vehicles and carseats...

    One thing we discovered is that the original energy efficient tires on the Cmax account for about 4 miles of charging range. We have 4 drivers in our family, and each of us popped a different tire by grazing a curb at low speeds - something that would never pop a normal tire. So we replaced them with regular tires. Years later, we took the car in to have the battery checked for why the range had fallen over the years, and after an expensive battery test, they told us it was largely due to the tires.

    tires can make a big difference, but on the end of really bad rolling resistance ones than on the low rolling resistance models.

    i have not had a flat in a prius oem tire since 2004, unless i ran over a screw or nail.
