Hello All, I just realized that one of my 2005 Prius front wheel disk brake got hotter than the other after driving. I have gone to car repair shop to check the brake pad in case it stuck but the result was not, so do you guys used to meet something like this issue before? on the dashboard there is no ABS warning light alert showing. welcome! it's probably fine. you would need to measure the temp differential with an infrared tool or something.
i doubt there is one, because it probably depends on ambient and amount of usage. if there is any data, it would be in the service manual. but if one brake is substantially hotter than the others, it is likely an issue.
The wheels should feel slightly warm to the touch after a good drive, at the most. Has the brake fluid ever been changed? For perspective: Toyota USA says nothing on the subject, and Toyota Canada says every 3 year or 48K kms, whichever comes first. Do you periodically do a full brake inspection? Toyota USA says tri-yearly or 30K miles. Toyota Canada says even more frequently, but I've found the US interval works for me, especially with our low usage. It could just be a stuck caliper pin, due to neglect of the aforementioned brake inspection. Hopefully it can be worked out of the bore, cleaned up and relubricated. It could also be a sticking caliper piston, possibly due to neglected brake fluid. That more serious, and likely a rebuilt caliper would be the easiest fix.
