They will allocate them to where they will sell.

no, they allocate them to where they get carb credits. that's why they have 5k rebates and big discounts in the northeast

In other words, that is where they are selling. It took rebates and discounts to move the cars, but they are selling.

My area of Nebraska is much like MrHockey reported from Minneapolis. The dealers don't know much about the cars, when you go test drive one they have no charge in the traction battery, etc. Only Advanced models with extra dealer add-ons and colors I didn't prefer, and no price movement. This didn't stop me from buying one - I couldn't find what I wanted locally so I spent $125 to fly to CA and bought one there and drove it home.

For the $5K savings that appears to be the case in the northeast, an out-of-state buyer could have the car shipped and still get a good deal. Although, driving it home would consume less fossil fuel than the shipping truck would consume.

dealers don't know anything about the cars here either. all they know is there's a rebate, and 'how much more do we have to pay you to get one off of our lot?'

you travelled in the wrong direction. people from california have come here for their car.

a lot of people around the country purchased their prime in the northeast. see the pricing thread

I have yet to find a dealer who knows as much about the car I am interested in buying as I do. It's not restricted to PHEVs.

What lack of information is this? Anybody with a web browser and calculator can calculate the cost of running an EV vs a gas vehicle. It's pretty simple math...

Yeah, but you're way smarter than the average driver. I mean, golly, look at the car you drive! It just oozes intelligence. :D

My opinion of the typical driver gets lower every day. When we lived in the Denver area there was a Dodge dealer that had hilarious commercials. In one, this guy calls in asking about red cars. The dealer says, "Which model?" and then lists a bunch of them. The guy says, "I don't care. Just so it's red. Emma likes red cars." To a awful lot of people, cars are fashion statements and motorcycles are butt jewelry.

Just finished reading the article. I must say, it is hardly a "Scientific" for it's contents. I use to enjoy reading Scientific American as a resource for down to earth lay man descriptions of real science. Well, that was many years ago when I was still in college. I really wish the author would put forth more scientific bases for her arguments. Oh well... editorial choice.

The statement in the article for an answer to the title question "Why Are Electric Vehicle Sales Low? Psychology Provides Clues" is this:

Experts who study human behavior think it’s because consumers lack fundamental information about how EVs can improve the environment and their pocketbooks.

Maybe it's not a lack of information, but just a lack of interest in improving the environment? Even if their interest is only on improving their pocketbooks, on the contrary to the generalized statement "EVs save consumers money in the long run", it cost more to drive EV at current gas and electric rate in our region. I would have to think even for the people outside of NE and other few high electric rate regions, buying Nissan Versa or Mitsubishi Mirage for ~$15K would be much more cost effective than buying any EV on current market.

when look for information on the web, i usually find a lot of conflicting data that leaves me more confused than before i started.

it's like when you look up reviews for a product or service. half are good, half are bad. o_O

Very true. A lot of fake news out there!

In addition, even legitimate scientific studies can be very opposing in their conclusions sometimes.

That's just spin for those who don't like the concept of phased rollouts.

Toyota tests the market by rolling out small allocations to limited areas. That real-world data they collect provides a powerful means of product alignment.

The fact that it also meets California requirements is a benefit to the approach, a win-win situation for both.

It's not anti ev campaigns, or the evil Koch bro .

Lack of infrastructure to charge, limited range, time to recharge (even at a super charger) all are huge negatives for ev's. They also have a high price tag, maybe not compared to a large suv or truck, but certainly more than a pure gas mid size or compact. The technology just doesn't compete yet.

When the market decides that it is more economical an has more utility they will become more prevalent, and the infrastructure to support them will also.

Don't even get me started on the whole climate change nonsense.

Here's an example, a rebuttal to an article that was negative hype.
Oh, POLITICO, Please Don't Publish Garbage — Reality Check For Electric Vehicle Hit Job | CleanTechnica
I read the original article when it came across my newsfeed, and I immediately knew something wasn't right. I was glad to see the thorough rebuttal a couple days later. But people seem to be pre-disposed to believe and latch onto negative information. You can tell people all the great things about EVs, then they will say "but I heard...".

I don't know about the whole stock short thing. At one point I kept seeing articles on my newsfeed saying so-and-so is shorting Tesla bigtime. I think they just wanted attention, and the financial news sites just needed to write something to take up space. Financial news seems to be some of the least informed writing with the least substance, so I just ignore it whenever possible.

Like I said I don't know anything about it. I do think that Tesla has or will likely have financial problems, but in my opinion that's mostly unrelated to their cars.

maybe, maybe not. there have been plenty of people who agree with you over the last 10 years, much to their dismay. only more time will tell.
