I parked in a shopping centre. I came back, reversed... Large clunking noises. I thought cat converter had got stolen... Turned out to be the exhaust. The recovery man said this to me. He said the front part was loose. What should I do? Can it be repaired? Or best to get replaced? It's a 2008 car. I have a mobile mechanic I can use... How much am I looking to spend? I looked up the part on eBay, cheapest was £110 (entire exhaust). How much work is there to replace? Thanks.
hard to say without pics. maybe you just need a hanger. did you hit something? unusual for a 2013, how many miles on her?
2008 model (2013 model I asked questions for someone else) Hanger? What's that? I saw this video: I'm guessing this is what you mean by hanger - an adaptor to join 2 parts? I'll take pics and post back later Thanks
Yeah for a 2013 that's premature, replacement due to rust-out. Better have an underneath look, or have a shop get it up on hoist for a look. I'd really doubt it would rust-out so early. An internally rusted out muffler, if you grab it and shake, will sound kinda like a castanet.
It's NOT 2013 model. It's a 2008 model. I tried shooting video underneath the car. I can't even see the exhaust! I've spent ages. Can someone at least give me ball park figures on how much the part costs to replace + how much work there is to get replaced and what I should be looking to pay? (In the UK) Thanks
Since the only people that have responded live in North America I’m going to say no. Ask in this thread Stolen catalytic converter in london uk | PriusChat It’s more of a UK group there.
Thanks @Skibob. I'll post in that forum. I've just taken one last video and got a shot of something that looks cut off. See pic below:

@bisco, thanks. I sent him a PM just now. Is this cat converter the same as the one I had - but maybe minus the precious metals? Let me know. Thanks.
I'd check with a local specialist if I were you. I feel like the bar for passing MOT (I am American and have no direct experience) is relatively high and you wouldn't want to waste your money with a solution that wouldn't get you a pass.
Thanks for the replies. I asked someone else and they said similar. Just wondering why the ebay seller sells? One person suggested they could be selling stolen parts..?
The seller is UK, has over 100k positive feedback. Has sold ~200 of these already. They are new, never used, after market. Obviously they won't have the same amount of PM as an original Toyo, but it's also not $2000. It does have a 2 year warranty. May at least be worth asking seller if that warranty includes passing emission standards.
