Red bullet VVTI seloniod

    Hi guys, I just received the Red Bullet today from Max. Took me less than 5 minutes to do the swap at a relatively cool-ed down engine.

    Did a short 15 minutes drive. I won't say the power has changed significantly but I do noticed that the vehicle now require less input to sustain or pick up to cruise speeding around 90-100 kph which makes it around 55-62 mph.

    As I discussed with Max that dyno would be difficult due to our ride being CVT and there's not over-ride feature that can lock the transmission into a fixed ratio for the accurate dyno plot.

    However I do have a high frequency GPS we use for our track cars that is very accurate along with G forces and other data I can pull out from the OBD to output on the video when I do.

    I realised that RPM data should be displayed along with the car doing the WOT pull as well as I suspect that is some changes in how the car is pulling from the short test drive. As I'm used to much higher horse power cars closing to 400bhp I'm a little less sensitive to minute changes on this platform. Butt dyno is always not accurate so I'll bring in my track tools to benchmark and see if there's any delta.

    Hi Max,
    To keep it simple, just doing photos (a picture book with step-by-step instructions) directly under the photos is a good start and can look professional. In general, whether one does a video or pictures, the trick to a good result is lighting and focus. And of course if it is a video, clear recorded sound with minimal background noise and no shakey-jakey herkey jerkey movements of camera. So, I would just start out doing photos with captions underneath the photos. Do a sample of what you want to do, post it for us only, and let us help you! We can give you the feed back before you go full tilt. We can help you!

    Hi Royston,

    That's really fast shipping, I'm impressed!

    I put my replacement in today. I am slowly getting a bounce back. But I might miss my mark. Right now I'm nearly half tank with 420km. So if i pop 450km before i lose my 6th bar, then we still might have a chance.

    I'm going to hurry up and make a private video for you guys to use for installation.
    There are a few key aspect to check before you drive off into the sunset.

    After installation, start the ignition and depress the gas paddle to engage the ICE. Make sure you connected the plug to the Red Bullet.

    Let the engine warm up and look for oil leaks after the initial warm up cycle. It shouldn't leak but just in case have a look to be sure. Pay attention to Check engine light, just in case too. Usually a tell tail that we forget to plug back the socket.
    Then go for test drive.
    You will feel a difference right away on your acceleration and hill climbs, not a big one like suddenly getting boost from a turbo charged engine but it will be there constantly.

    If you don't usually wide open throttle(WOT) on the prius C then you should a few times before you try to WOT on the Red Bullet to compare. There is where you will hear and feel the significant difference.

    During your regular driving the Red Bullet will start to make your engine feel more responsive on regular loads. The car will pull smoother with more pep. Try not to be like me. I was a little throttle happy in the beginning knowing I have a more regular engine feel. Now that I know what benefits I can get, I try to utilize my gained efficiency towards higher fuel economy.

    I checked my engine oil level because I told my fiancee to check if it's insufficient then top it up but she top it up anyway. So I had to drain a fair bit of oil out last evening. I usually WOT on the Prius C for overtaking and filtering and after draining the excess oil the difference is more pronounced.

    The pull does feel better and the engine "roars" louder. Not too sure but it seems that it's switch to ICE faster than usual and be more willing to glide. However I think that maybe placebo. Don't think solenoid is doing any changes below activation range.

    Will definitely need my track tools and overlay RPM data to get more accurate benchmark and see if there's any delta to confirm the changes.

    Thanks for the information and keeping us updated! Let us know what data you get from the track tests.

    The seloniod being a engine part that modulates only the ICE but others have reported the same what you are experiencing in regards to gliding more and faster response to switch over to ICE.

    When I was conducting my highway merge test, I too observed that there is stronger pull and also louder work output sounds from the engine. From my calculations we had a significant difference from 60km to 100km/h between the OEM and the Red Bullet which was accessible for me to test at the time. I think with your situation, I believe you can magnify the change by doing a wider range test. Say from 10km/ to 100km/h instead, which will be very dangerous for me to do on open road.

    Again thank you for sharing! And I look forwards to you running the tests for mpg once the power output phase of the test is complete.

    Alright gents! I got mine installed this evening and so far I'm impressed. It does feel a bit faster, but I have a better way to test if it's helping. This weekend I'll be at a drag strip, so I'll do a few runs with the new solenoid and a few without and see what the numbers say.

    I noticed it was quicker from 50km to 100km.
    I'm looking forward to seeing your results!
    Guys for those who are interested in more fuel economy the Red Bullet does that too, right now I'm doing a 900km/tank challenge. Which will be concluded soon. It really takes a while to use that tank of gas driving in the city.

    As it will be a everyday test scenario I'm not going to drive for longer then 15km per trip and most driving speed will be under 60km/h.

    Will keep you guys updated.
    I am seeing good overall results so far average above 27km/l. I'm going to aim for 27.5 and above to account for any computer error, because it will take me roughly 33l to get 900km I'll be pretty close to bingo on fuel. Last thing I want is the walk to the gas station.

    About the time and true testing, I just want to set the record straight. Seems like there is a misconception that this is a new off the blue print auto part.

    The fact is The Red Bullet has been out since 2016 here in Taiwan, it went through revisions and many local people have it in there cars and using it for the last 3 years. Not just the Prius, Prius C, but also a handful of other make and model such as Lexus, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Ford. It is used in conjunction with ECU remap or as a standalone upgrade.

    I was surprised it never made it out to the international market hence thats what I'm doing. After talking to the manufacture, it seems they have too many other product line to look after and this is one of the small sector that has been neglected internationaly. Small country small views and language barrier inhibited the product from going International.

    With a product like the Red Bullet its best to use it as early as possible. The moment you install it you start to benefit from it. It might not be a lot in the short run such as remapping, but for the long run it will make a huge difference on your overall efficiency like what I'm about to demonstrate 900km/tank and also Power output. I always have a smile on my face going up a slope or ramp. Every time I switch off the vehicle I'm anticipating that high mileage per liter. It is truly very satisfying. For only 5 to 10min of DIY and one hand tool, it doesn't get easier then that.

    Its a all rounder I think. The double power/speed coil response maximises your exisiting VVTI capability.
    The fine materials are just the icing on the cake.
    I'm happy you are having a blast Montgomery! The photos you took are really sweet. Would you mind if I use it for the Prius Gen 3 and Lexus models?
