This blog entry: (http://nielsenbuzzmetrics.com/Automobuzz/archives/2006/07/chatting_with_p.html) implied that Toyota somehow participated in Priuschat. Is this true? Does Toyota post here, watch what is going on? BTW, good press Danny!
They have only posted to one thread (that I know of) relating to the steering recall, but we're fairly sure the company keeps an eye on PriusChat, even if unofficially.
I know of one Toyota muckity muck who frequents Priuschat. He flew in to Chicago on a red-eye to attend Danny's Prius celebration at Grossinger and promptly flew back to California. Salsa's right, he posted alot and answered a lot of questions on the steering recall thread. Great guy. But there might be more. . . <_<
Oh well since we have their ears (or eyes) now... BETTER SEATS PLEASE! Oh, and great job with the car, and congratulations on the excellent sales of all your vehicles this year! Keep up the good work, and you'll beat out GM permanently. I've been a Toyota fan all my life.
Considering the EV mod, if it does void the warranty, they would have a clue on where to look for it.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(aaf709 @ Aug 30 2006, 03:55 PM) </div> I've been meaning to ask that... does the EV mod void any warranties? I'm thinking about installing the CoastalTech mod...should I remove it when servicing the vehicle?
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Soylent @ Aug 30 2006, 03:00 PM) </div> Toyota's never said yyes or no to that question... the general consensus is that it doesn't. Toyota would have to prove your mod caused the problem before they could say the warrenty doesn't come into effect for a repair. Since they have it as a factory button elsewhere in the world, this is doubtful... Most people leave it in when having the car serviced, and AFAIK, no one has ever said anything to them... a few have even pointed it out proudly to their techs, who were duely impressed, and most didn't seem to be aware of the potential for the mod. So basically, if you go in for a problem and they find out that a wire broke where you tapped into it, then it won't be covered. If you go in and they find something wrong with some other part that would normally be covered under warrenty, then you'll be fine.
I'm just now able to walk again after some disparaging comparisons I made of the Prius to the Corolla. A rookie mistake for which I am deeply sorry... One move out of line, and some "associates" will stop by for a "chat."
Forget it. The steering-recall thing was a special case, in which the public face of safety concerns was deemed worthy of brief participation in the group because for the most part, Toyota figured folks here would handle it responsibly. Anything else you try to get their attention with will be silently observed, and passed through the heavy fifty-year-plan filters and the Japanese way of doing things before you might see any of these unrelated "suggestions" see the light of day in a car. But because Toyota is a carmaker whose job is to sell vehicles, you'll have to buy a new car to get any of that for yourself. Retrofit kits? f'geddaboudit. . Sorry for the pessimism, but it's been like that since the birth of PC and all the other forums, and probably even before in relation to other cars, and ain't likely to change. . _H*
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(eagle33199 @ Aug 30 2006, 03:18 PM) </div> he's not some toyota bigwig or anything, just a guy who fixes toyotas although... if you bigwigs are listening... and you need someone to give a mechanic's perspective on the new prius... he'll volunteer.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(hobbit @ Aug 30 2006, 05:45 PM) </div> I have to agree. Since I first started visiting this forum in 2004, I've read countless pleas for beter seats. The seats remained unchanged for 2005 and 2006, although they changed the front lights, added a chrome grill, added a new hybrid badge...
and my mysterious Prius bumper in back that just "hangs" off on each side...despite "new" one being installed???? LOL.... I LOVE MY PRIUS!! terri
Heh. That "hang" is by design. Get down and look under there at what the plastic does just behind the rear wheels -- it's like a little airfoil, guiding the airflow off the tires to a tapered point. . _H*
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(jamarimutt @ Aug 30 2006, 03:54 PM) </div> The seat hasn't changed but I believe they've added some extra padding. I know, it could be because my Prius seats has soften up after 33,000kms but I could've sworn they weren't that stiff when new. Also the rear seat is supposedly 2cm lower.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(hobbit @ Aug 30 2006, 08:44 PM) </div> Are you toying with me on this, hobbit???? At first it was only the right rear quadrant hanging slightly "removed" from the car...now both rear quadrants have THE GAP! terri
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Salsawonder @ Aug 30 2006, 03:02 PM) </div> If they spend any time in FHoP, they probably "listen" for amusement. "Can you believe the goofballs who buy our cars?"
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(terri @ Aug 30 2006, 09:42 PM) </div> Hey, I have the exact same thing! The passenger side "skirt" in back began hanging about 1/8" off the bumper about 2 months after I got the car. Was not sure if I touched something backing up (?) - definitely don't remember doing so - and I'm the only driver. A couple weeks later I noticed the driver side is loose as well, though it is not hanging off like the passenger side. I asked the dealer about that when I had it in for an oil change a couple weeks ago, and they said it would have to be "re-threaded" and I would need to make an appointment, which I have not done yet. So is this a flaw in the design? I feel a bit better now, as I thought it was somehow something I had done... Kevin
