Oil Catch Can, Eliminate that knock!

    Oil smell is from an air leak in a connector, hose or occ. Burning very small amounts of evenly distributed oil/water/fuel vapor is not terrible, it just causes fouled spark plugs, clogged piston rings, dirty valves/seats, decreased mpg, early egr failure, clogged egr ports in intake manifold, dirty map sensor (lack of power/stalling) carbon build up on pistons/heads with irregular compression and burning oil. It is the cold start knock from oil/water/fuel that is pooled up in the intake manifold that will blow a head gasket.

    I have an oil extractor with a 6ft straight tip, is that something worth syphoning out the oil pool on the terms that no oil gets on the throttle plate and any other surface on engine parts?

    This post does not help your credibility. ATP205 has a conditioning effect on rubber seals. Piston rings are metal. ATP205 cannot “swell” piston rings.

    Seals and “O” rings are the same. I just replaced 2 rubber “O” rings on my power steering pump on my truck. Did not need to replace the whole power steering unit.

    14 parts air 1 part fuel is how combustion works. When an engine has fluid (oil/water/fuel) that is sucked into the combustion chamber, the ratio is no longer 14 parts air 1 part fuel. This creates a temporary knocking/hydro lock inside the combustion chamber that can destroy a head gasket, bend rods and stretch head bolts. Fluid is an incompressible solid. Oil/water/fuel is not suppose to be in the intake manifold. The gen3 prius has an intake manifold that likes to trap this fluid in two area's from the pcv system. Prii in cold, humid, short driving trips will experience more build up in the intake manifold than others. Oil/water/fuel rests in the area's circled in brown.

    Oil/water/fuel accumulates under the throttle body. You can either remove the entire intake plenum to clean, use a rag or vacuum pump it out when throttle body is open.

    I'm trying to ditch my Oil Catch Can accumulations, mixed it in with drained engine oil, took the mix to Mr. Lube to be poured into their waste oil tank. Trouble is, the OCC stuff settles to the bottom. I'll have to give it a swirl just before handing the container to them next time. It's pretty sorry-looking stuff.

    Probably similar to the stuff you buy at a place like Rotten Robbie’s:whistle:.

    How fast does it separate when in the waste can?

    You could always change it up and get a non transparent container;).

    That’d save the swirl before return(y).

    I think you're kosher to add OCC accumulations to waste engine oil. The stuff is coming from a a pcv valve on the crankcase wall, and that valve is at the end of a crude labyrinth, that catches some of the gunk and returns it to the oil, so you're just being a bit more efficient at waylaying the stuff.

    It's not a very nice brew though.

    Welp, fellas.... It happened... Got the knock that set off a check engine light with a misfire code on cylinder 1... Took it in, compression test, blooooown head gasket.... The OCC was on my list of mods to do! Looks like after it gets fixed, it will be expedited to the top of the list!

    Big time, right? It has 147k on it but I bought it with 82k and while I am pretty sure the regular maintenance was done, but the EGR was probably never cleaned (it was a fleet vehicle so it had all maintenance) - which was on my list to tackle this weekend...
