The other day my wife told me her 2010 prius was knocking really bad on start up. I dreaded the worst and thought blown head gasket. I hoped it would be something silly like dirty im, fowled plugs etc. Let the elm327 do the talking and read the following codes. P0102 maf, P0113 iat, P0401 egr. That's strange??? Popped the hood and saw this. Fuel injector wires for cylinder 3, 4 and maf chewed up by natures furry little devil. I thought of filing a claim with insurance but thought it would be to much trouble. Wiring harness bought used, soldered, heatshrinked, and insulated with Honda's mouse blocker tape. All would have been avoided if neighbor could just throw their chicken bones and pizza in the garbage. That is what I found next to the chewed up wires in the engine bay. Other neighbor has a garden and I am sure this does not help either. Dealers quote to fix was 1500~2500$ and 2~3 days no car, tow to dealer, pickup and deductible. I did this work for less than 50$ and 2hrs labor. I also feel assured by using Honds's mouse blocker tape to prevent future damage to same area. I would love to wrap the entire wire loom in this stuff but decided to pop traps to rid of these bastards. Prius is running well again. Hope this can help anyone with rodents. Not sure if mouse blocker tape is squirrel proof. I know it works with mice/rats because I have not had an issue yet with my ridgeline in 5 years. Engine bay was also scrubbed to rid of fecal and urine.
That is because it is the first occ on a prius. I had this on the prius 1.5 years before I posted the thread with my findings. It is still working great. After a test drive, noticed steering pulling to the right. Need to tell wife to stop hitting curbs, I knew should have bought lifetime alignment when she said, "I'm not good at parallel parking"
I haven’t done an alignment on my Prius yet, I’d probably sell it before doing one since it’s been driving nicely.
