Hi there, I think there must be a reason Prius has NO power outlet in the Trunk area, also has only one tiny light to the left. then a huge foam filling almost all spare spaces. however it is unseen for the batt security, as the batt pack is under the rear seats.... is there some explanation?
Probably not. Just what the marketing people decided. Boot lights in most recent cars I've had have been pathetic, and I've never had a Power Outlet - except when I've installed one myself. They're usually only in SUVs and big 4WDs.
I've driven plenty of cars with just one (1) 12 plug up in front dash. Gen 3 was improvement, and PRIME is even better. That said, our old minivan had 3 plugs, 2 in front and 1 in trunk. I think the trunk plug is mostly for larger cars (minivan, SUV and like).
Probably because fewer than .000001 % of their customers want or need a power outlet in the trunk. You are free to add one if you wish. I don't quite understand the last half of your post.
I think there's a 12v outlet in the back seat (it does in Australia). If so, it's only 10 amp as per the Manual. Be aware - it's suggested that you not use it for long on "ACCESSORY" mode (without the hybrid system running). The foam underneath - there are at least 3 versions: cars with a full sized spare (Middle East - maybe more - with 15" wheels) cars with a pretend-spare tyre (15" wheels) no spare - just a "goo" kit and pump. The foam is made to suit - so that the floor is flat.

I might be lucky having all previous cars come with root outlet (Chrysler mostly). and i do think it's necessary since I got a portable fridge there, not only for open a cold drink now and then, but also when shop supermarket, food got preserve in the fridge 1000 x better. The other thing I do believe is necessary to add a LED strip to "help" lighting up the big shadow from only light from one side... My last complaint was that big foam, instead of putting climbs/hooks, etc well placed, the foam seems very badly designed, does nothing to do with acoustic deadening, I myself work with audio equipment and speakers, doubt in one thing: The prius has batt pack underneath the seat, they might not be happy to have some heavy load from the owner in the same ground level, in certain situation as crashing from behind, maybe they need the "full-size spare tire" to absorb impact to the batt pack. just a thought.
I like the thread title: somebody knows, lol. I've used the pretend tire on ours, got me 10 real kms down the road, lol. There's a speed restriction caution, no big deal.
you can remove the foam, and order the correct foam for a spare. some claim the foam will act as crush reducer in an accident. idk
