In a TINY effort to decrease the load on Danny's server, I tried to use an external link to my avatar instead of using PC's link. I get this error message: "Sorry, but the URL you entered for your avatar was incorrectly formatted or the link is not valid." The link IS valid, per a couple of other "fact checkers." I am sure there are a lot of loose ends left from the hack, but, just in case anyone else has encountered this particular one...just thought I'd share. Danny, you have done an awesome job of getting back from the hack! And I still wanna grind up ALL hackers and trolls and feed 'em to each other. Or a pool of pirhanas....
External links seemed to work for me. Text browser; just banged it into the field and submitted it and it took. Perhaps if you post the exact same link here, we all could see if there are potential subtleties that might give the board fits. . I could also see a security upgrade being significantly more paranoid about such things... . _H*
Here is link: http://www.surveysystem.com/dwimages/r&weePavatar.jpg I have not yet checked just now if it works, but it did not a short while ago.

i successfully loaded my avatar from a file on the computer a minute ago. don't have anything to link offsite to see if that's the problem.

Remove that ampersand. I'm surprised it works on any browser with that... Unless it was originally escaped and PC unescaped it to display it.. mutter mutter computers html mutter tech stuff mutter..
Yup, lose the ampersand. Lose spaces. Lose any %dd escaped characters. I got lucky that "~" worked as part of a filename, but best to make it as generic as possible. Even if IPB can handle it, not everyone's browsers necessarily can and you have no way of knowing what the world at large is using to cruise PC... . _H*
