OH MY DOG! @orenji actually tried one out! Could there be a model 3 in his future? These cars are more than fun, there are beyond fun, they are the FUTURE! Now that he has driven one for maybe 15 or 20 minutes, I can give more credence to any criticisms he might have. But if he were to drive one for a couple of days, it would be game over! YES, VERY nice picture, well done.
The keyword here is "source." Gasoline is a source, electricity...not so much. Electricity can come from coal, solar, wind, NG, etc. Going from gasoline to wheels, the efficiency is pretty low...20-30% usually, maybe 35% for a Prius. From a battery (electricity) to wheels is maybe 80-90%. You also lose 10-15% charging the battery. Now the interesting part. Efficiency is a tricky concept. Solar cells are typically about 15% efficient. But this is measuring the available energy from the sun to the amount you harvest. Net efficiency sun to wheels would be about 0.15 x 0.9 x 0.9 or ~12%. Seems worse than gasoline. (The problem is that you can't always directly compare efficiency numbers from two different thermodynamic processes. Mike
Hybrids charge as long as they are provided fuel. Which accounts for their range and their efficiency. The difference is, the hybrid can charge on the move; BEVs cannot. And that is what makes time travel possible.
what? - wrong - they recharge in much the same way hybrids do .... when letting off the accelerator, breaking, or going downhill. The difference is - an ev doesn't need to do this; blum blum blum blum blum blum blum blum ... wasting its energy - waiting to refuel its carcinogenic liquid energy - so it can regene its battery .... instead just taking 10 seconds to plug in at the convenience of your home in most instances. .
We now have mobile gas stations that let ICE cars refuel without stopping now? Hybrids are ICE cars that use EV components to maximize the efficiencies and reduce the inefficiencies of the ICE part of the system. They don't self-charge. They are still converting chemical energy into mechanical like every other ICE car out there, and those also charge up a battery while running too. They all need to be fueled up, they need to stop to do so, and they don't pump their own gas. Plug ins can actually self fuel through wireless systems, robotic chargers, and battery swaps. They can also can do so on the move through electric rails or wires. Regen is the only self-charging a hybrid does, and that is also done by BEVs and FCEVs. Install a PV panel, and they can all self-charge from the sun. No car is going to make hydrocarbons onboard for an ICE with such ease. "Self-charging hybrid" is marketing BS that deserves to be mocked.
No hurricanes at the Irvine Calif Costco, where they wait in similar 30 minute lines - just to save a few pennies. Bluhm bluhm bluhm bluhm bluhm bluhm bluhm bluhm bluhm .
I never understood why people will drive miles in their maybe 20MPG truck to save 2 cents a gallon and feel good about it. Yea I go to the pump across the street if it is cheaper or arrange to stop at a place I know will be cheaper when I also know it will by on my route to my real destination. I figure my time has value, I only get so many ticks of the clock in life.
Much like the Tesla claims of charging speeds of "1000 miles per hour?" Or flying Roadsters equipped with rocket motors? Or "funding secured" for a $420 privatization buyout? Or delivering an actual $35,000 car, which has never been delivered to anyone, yet.
What does penny pinchers have to do with normal Chevron, Mobil, Arco, Shell, and 76 gas locations who don’t have lines? Have you seen the line at the Tesla Chargers in Fountain Valley! Wait 1/2 hour or more for spot to open up, plug in for another 1/2 hour or more! Sounds like fun!
porch is a low sales volume company and always will be. they don't want the exclusive club broken into.
same Penny Pinchers in most instances. People that live a couple blocks away, & free charging, brings out the worst in people. They're supposed to be for distance traveling & apartment dwellers who have no other source - but it like everything ... has the potential for abuse. .
