Low-Mileage 2007 HV Battery Codes

    Hello all! It's been a little while since I've posted (mostly a lurker), but I am in need of some advice for my Gen2 Prius. Any help would be appreciated! Here's the details:

    Codes:
    • C1259
    • C1310
    • P0A80
    • P3015
    Vehicle Background:
    • 2007 Prius
    • ~82k miles, mostly interstate commutes
    • HV Coolant Pump replaced (by me) summer 2018
    • HV fan compartment cleaned summer 2018
    • No other HV-related issues in history

    If you need more info to help narrow down the issue, please let me know!

    I know the vehicle is well beyond the 8-year (or 10-year) warranty period for the battery pack, so I want to try and run this repair by myself to reduce costs. I'm fairly comfortable with auto repairs, and willing to research how to do things. (Already looked for these codes on the forums, but I couldn't locate a post with the same set of four codes.)

    Since the P3015 relates to one of the module sets, my main "uncertainty" is whether this will require a single-module replacement, set of modules, or full pack replacement. I am will gladly accept recommendations on module vs whole pack replacement for consistency - and would really appreciate experiences fixers to recommend where they purchased quality battery modules that have lasted.

    depends on what your trying to accomplish. a new battery will give you another 10+ years. $1,600.

    replacement and balancing of bad modules is almost all labor plus a few tools, and will give you an uncertain amount of time back on the road before you have to do it again.

    Any suggestions on where to purchase a module or whole pack that's a reputable source? What have you heard about life span of the single modules; month, year, few years?

    Here's the two choices I've researched and look to have positive reviews on the forums:

    NewPriusBatteries - whole pack replacement - $1,600
    ElectronAutomotive - single module replacement - $60

    These are not the same things at all, unfortunately.

    Do you plan on keeping the car for a long time?
    Have you had it a while and has it been reliable?
    Is it in otherwise good condition?

    NEW CELLS
    You can buy a New pack from Toyota for around $2,100 and install it yourself.
    Perhaps less if you wholesale prices are accessible to you.

    Alternately, you can switch to non-Toyota New cells.
    These are cylindrical instead of prismatic.
    Cost is $1,600

    USED CELLS
    Every other option out there will be Used batteries.
    Used batteries will never last as long as New batteries.
    The quality of Used batteries is all over the board and will be a crapshoot.
    The cost of some of the best Used batteries are about the same price as New.
    The cost of random crappy Used batteries is pretty cheap.

    Ultimately you will get what you pay for.

    If you have lots of free time, don't need a reliable car, and want to save money, you can definitely learn a ton by goofing around with Used modules. Keep doing this as long as it is fun for you. There's lots of great thread about goofing around with Used modules and junkyard packs.

    i don't know where you would buy good cells. check the battery rebuilding threads, there must be reliable sources

    I always have plenty of good cells for purchase.
    But you can likely get them cheaper elsewhere.

    I don't aim to be the cheapest, but you get support from me plus it helps me continue to offer my help on priuschat as well.
