I recently ordered a Prius with Magnetic Gray exterior. The dealer contacted me few weeks later to say that there is a Metallic Siver Prius arriving at the dealership earlier than the one I ordered. She wanted to know if I was interested in buying that car. I said yes, but now having second thoughts. I know this sounds like a very childish question, but which of the two colors would look better in a Prius?
I have a metallic silver and am quite happy with it. I was tempted by the magnetic gray, but was worried that it would "disappear" in the misty gray mornings we get 9 months out of the year in Seattle. I sorta took whatever was available (knowing that magnetic gray could take a while anyway). I haven't regretted my silver. Frankly, most of the Prius colors look pretty good. I'm not sure you can "go wrong" with any of them. Good luck, and congratulations.
I personally like the Magnetic Gray, which is the color I have. I was fortunate to have one come available at the last minute with the package I wanted. I almost went with the Red, but I'm glad that I ended up with the MGray. If you can be patient, I would wait for the color you prefer. You'll end up "learning to love" the color if you settle for something else, much like an arranged marriage. Good luck!

But I'm prejudiced - I got t-boned by a silver Acura back in April. It led to me getting my Prius, but I wouldn't even consider silver then! I happen to like the mag grey color, and it's less common than the metallic silver. At one point, I think the metallic silver was the most-frequently-produced color.
I also would wait for the on you like better. I had the option of magnetic gray or metallic silver and chose the magnetic gray. I like both options; however, here in Salt Lake City I see less of the gray. Good luck!
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Michgal007 @ Aug 28 2006, 09:48 AM) </div> Thanks for all the help My dealer contacted me again and said the Gray one will take another 2 months to arrive since Toyota hasn't started building it yet. I cannot wait that long to drive a Prius!!! Since Michigan has a looong cold winter, I better get it now. Otherwise I have to wait until the spring to go somewhere. (This is my first car and haven't driven around much). So I am going for the silver one. It still looks sexy.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Shane @ Aug 28 2006, 11:05 AM) </div> Well then you haven't seen much of me rolling around! Silver is easier to keep clean, but I think the gray looks a bit nicer. Should be fine either way though.
I have a silver '04, and I would've gone with the grey if it would've been available then... Oh well, heh.
I have the silver. At first I was a little disappointed with it because it seemed so light and, unlike dark colors, no matter how hard you polish it, it never will have that deep reflective glow. I was regretting not going for the magnetic grey. However, I'm starting to really like the silver. The thing is with darker colors is that they look really great when the car has been just washed and waxed. If they are allowed to get a little dirty, they can look quite dowdy. The silver maintains its appearance fairly well even when it's not pristine clean. Also, it doesn't get so hot when left out in the sun.
I've had the metallic silver for about 3 weeks and think it looks great. I added the Black Prius decals on the sides and the black bumper and silver side moldings to break up that vast amount of silver and it came out real sharp. Good luck with the new car!
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Michgal007 @ Aug 28 2006, 10:25 AM) </div> Looks like it's a fait accompli at this point. FWIW, I loved both colors but chose the magnetic grey. It's gorgeous. Then again, the silver would have been just as magnificent, I'm sure, if that had been my ultimate choice. You will love whatever color you have. Enjoy!
Get the car that will arrive before 9/30 if you want to get that full amount of tax credit. That 3000 bucks will definitely cover the cost of a new paint job if you don't like the color you get.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Clar @ Aug 30 2006, 02:14 PM) </div> I am a graduate student and don't pay more than $1500 for taxes, so it doesn't really matter to me. (I cannot get a refund for the difference). At the same time, I cannot wait so long to own the car. Silver looks pretty good anyway.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Michgal007 @ Aug 30 2006, 03:55 PM) </div> I like silver one, especially this year's silver is lighter than last year's. look prettier under the sun. Have fun with it.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Clar @ Aug 30 2006, 04:14 PM) </div> I have the Mag Grey with the Grey interior. I do a lot of highway trips and the Grey is easier on the eyes on a long trip. FishHawk
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Michgal007 @ Sep 30 2006, 08:07 AM) </div> Congratulations! And just in time - today is the last day that the full tax credit is available. Magnetic gray, silver, black, whatever, you will love the Prius itself & that's what counts. After all, it's the car, not the color, you will be driving.
<_< Quote: "That 3000 bucks will definitely cover the cost of a new paint job if you don't like the color you get. " Yuccchhh... No way I could imagine repainting a brand new car. No re-paint can accomplish the factory finish considering all the concealed areas, door seals, etc. etc. Even if a paint shop COULD strip down to the bare metal and repaint, it could never be the same or nearly so durable. Just my 2¢ worth...
