Right, but I read somewhere in the vast expanse of the internet that mpg should never drop below 10 even flooring from a stop going uphill. Mine goes to 5 under these extreme conditions. Sign of things to come?
I believe I need to start. As of now I have been relying on energy monitor, which has shown a drop of around 10 over the last month
i have never red that, but i guess it is possible. have you considered battery conditioning while you can?
Mine shows that too sometimes. Reality I don't think it could burn that much fuel. Lol Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
*UPDATE* Well I am back up to 41 mpgs, but I've had to drive the Prius like I'm conducting a symphony orchestra to get it, which I'm not sure if that's right either, but basically I'm doing Pulse and glide a lot, slow launches, keeping using energy monitor to keep the mpgs above 22 at all times, using coastal and braking regen, basically the key is keep it light on the throttle always. Never gun it. So, the take away is drive it like a Corolla, get Corolla mpgs. But if you want to get the rated mpgs like above 40 you have to use energy monitor. Unless some of you can chime in differently?
only thing i can say is that i've always gotten 50+ mpg accelerating with traffic and driving the speed limit in san diego type weather. even recently in my daughters 2008 w/ 130k.
As everyone has mentioned, there are many variables to consider. However. I think the elephant in the room is your pointing out lower mpg in conjunction with the increased charging and discharging "rate" of a GEN II 10 year old traction battery with 225K miles on it.
