I have a 2010 with 130,800 miles. I bought it used in Dec 2015. I even posted the best tank mpg on the dash with over 58! I haven't seen any mpg change except for seasonal. We have 198k miles on our 2010 that we bought new in August 2009 and I’ve averaged around 50mpg with most of that at freeway speeds . There were a couple of times when it began to dip with explainable causes: Egr system was plugging up Hv battery was degrading Winter blend of gas The egr circuit you can clean with the right tools, the hv battery Hybrid Automotive makes the Prolong equipment. Not much you can do about winter blend gas. Good luck with your new to you Prius .
I'm averaging about 42 mpg and have been for a while. I have 128k on it and haven't really don't any maintenance beside oil changed. Any recommendations you'd suggest. I bought the car used and while I first got it I was up in the 48mpg area but it's definitely dropped off. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Is it a winter time thing, or the other factors mentioned above? Hard to know without your location being listed. If the driving trips are not short which hurts mpg, at the mileage you are at the egr cooler is more than likely starting to restrict.
Same here, 2011 Prius, about 129K, Bought the car in northern VA, could easily go over 60mpg back then. Now I'm living in central NJ, Daily commute is around 45miles, mostly highway. It has been around 44-45mpg most of the time in Winter. In summer it's a little better, can go up to 48~49mpg, but never reaches 50 again. Guess I'll have to live with it - whatever you do, whether cleaning the egr valve or replacing the hv battery, it all costs money. And MPG just got improved a few extra miles... perhaps I need to drive another 129K to make it up.
I bought mine new and now have 136,000+ miles. When I quit tracking my FE, I was averaging between 52 and 53 mpg. I hardly ever had/have a tank of fuel that gets below 50 mpg. Tires have made the biggest difference in FE...with my current Michelin Defender’s performing quite nicely.
I have a 2014 with 150.000 eighty percent expressway average 54 to 61 has gotten better with age. makes me a little nervous.
135k on my 2015 Prius with 383 fuel ups tracked, 46.2 average MPG in New England. Definite decrease over time but I attribute it to driving faster and caring about MPG less as I've owned the car.
If your car is kept in good condition, there shouldn't be any change in fuel economy that isn't attributable to driver practice and external factors (traffic, weather, etc.). As an example, at the Green Grand Prix a few weeks ago (so, all cars running on the same closed track under the same conditions), my Gen 3 with 75,000 miles and a few aerodynamic modifications posted better fuel economy than any other non-plug-in Prius there. I got 59.7 mpg; the next closest was a 2019 at 57.5 mpg.
My first tank of gas used up since bought this 2013 Prius about 3wks ago. Display showed 52.2mpg on 502.4mi on Trip A and No Gas tank bar. I'm assuming it has about 1gallon left in the tank. All long term owners here filled up with 87 or 92 gas?
Our 2010's mpg has been "fairly" steady. Kinda stumbled outa the gate this spring, due to new tires I suspect. Is picking up again, just wait till next fill up, lol. Only 83K kms (~50K miles) on it though.
Previous 2010 and current 2015. Best was 61.9 mpg long trip @60 mph flat road, worst 27 mpg long trip @65 mph towing medium weight trailer with hills. Both...about 42 mpg lifetime...driving normal. YMMV...but they both beat everything else without a plug.
Average for 2015: 58.0 2016: 58.2 2017: 59.7 2018: 59.9 2019: 60.0 so far However, tires must be replaced soon.
after 2 years and 25k miles (50k on the car now) on my 2015 I average 53 in warm weather and 48.5 in winter. Tire pressures all at 39, no special tires, just all seasons not the best but middle of the range tires, buy the cheapest gas (87 octane) I don't care what brand, name brand or brand x. I do pay attention as I'm driving but won't go so slow that I irritate other drivers......I keep it under 72 at all times and try to take off smoothly if not slowly. I notice that if I'm in a hurry on a 35-65 mile trip it'll be 47 mpg (on the dash) and if i'm not in a hurry on that same trip it'll be 10 better.
This was my last & best tank w/AC on . 125K miles w/15,000mi OCI, thanks to non OEM and Mobil 1 oil & filters.
Ive had my 2010 for almost a decade. Best mpg was 59, now I get 45. It might be that I drive it more aggressively (if that's even a thing in a Prius), when I first got it, I was trying to maximize mpgs, then started driving it "normally".
