I've seen some comments in other threads about oil consumption that it means there is ring blow-by and when that starts, it's an inevitable downward slide. My 2010 with 200k miles is burning about 1 qt every 2500 miles or so. How fast does the oil burn accelerate if at all? I'm going to be switching to 0w40 and putting the catch can in to try to mitigate things a bit. I cleaned the EGR in the fall and replaced the PCV and it helped a bit. I'm ok just topping it up, but want to make sure I'm not staring down an imminent engine failure. I'm hoping to carry this thing over 250k...
I’m at a quart every 5-6k miles or so on our 2010 at 198 k miles . I use BG Products EPR to flush the engine out before changing then BG Products Extended Life moa in the new oil. I also am using 0w-40 to help reduce consumption . Egr circuit cleanse every 50k miles and oil catch can installed. Good luck and keep us posted .
Thanks! So..looks like cataclean is mostly Xylene, Acetone, and 'Propan-2-ol'. At any rate..looks like some nasty stuff! Hopefully it doesn't slowly eat away at seals and such. To quote the quote of the quote above that mentioned cataclean : 1) Use Cataclean in the fuel. This product cleans catalytic converters. It has a side effect of cleaning the carbon deposits in the engine, intake manifold (from the injectors into the valves), and the exhaust manifold. This will erode the ring deposits from the combustion side. Can't say I'm quite convinced..but it is added to the list of 'things to try' ( BTW the list is getting long )! It does have some 'good' reviews though...but take those with a grain of salt as always.
In addition to using Cataclean, you also have to do part 2, which is clean the rings from the oil side with Motor Flush.

Xylene is an aromatic hydrocarbon (110 Octane) and should be handled with caution. Acetone is widely used in fingernail polish removers. Propan-2-ol AKA isopropyl alcohol used to be used as charcoal lighter fluid.
Would any of those components tend to degrade the plastic of the intake manifold? I seem to recall having some organic solvents soften some kinds of plastic polymers, but that may depend on the exact combinations, and thus the question.
The fuel injectors are after the plastic manifold and are in the metal part of the manifold. The plastic manifold has air, PCV, and EGR recirculation inputs and not the fuel.
I'm doing an oil flush in 5k. I'll track burn each 1000 miles until then, and then after. I just want to see if anyone knew how fast this escalated.
Any updates regarding performance changes if you did the fuel and oil additives cleaning method? Wondering about PM's while working on and reading into the range of reported methods.
