Completely agree. But that's why random-dude-off-the-street trying to buy a battery to do it himself will most likely not get the discounted price that we can see online sometimes.

 

Actually Dealerships can set their own prices which are influenced by Regional...and they usually have 2 or 3 different scales.

 

Actually they can claim a safety hazard unless you can prove you have the necessary high voltage safety equipment to do the work.

 

2 or 3 tiers minimum these days. The friends and family discount coupled with regional discounts coupled with trying to move stale inventory, prices can vary wildly. And that has nothing to do with professional discounts, store-to-store discounts, or even favourable NET terms for bigger items to preferred shops. People are usually surprised when the "listed price" means absolutely nothing. Haggling and dealing in the US seems to be a dead or dying art.

Misunderstanding Skibob! Maybe my wording was not clear ... $2,952 was the price quoted by the dealer, AFTER the core credit of $1,350 had been deducted (the price started at $4,302., less $1,350. for core credit, for a total of $2,952. PLUS installation and tax.

My post / question was directed to Oldtechaa, in regards to his post from 12/27/18, in which he stated:

"For me, I have three options:

• Green Bean $1549 refurb 5 yr. warranty w/ installation (bonus really since I'd install myself)
• Toyota $1773 new 1 yr. warranty no installation
• 2K1Toaster ~$1600 new 1? yr. warranty no installation"

The price HE mentioned was $1,773. for a NEW Toyota battery...(see quote above), and I'm wondering / asking Oldtechaa where HE was able to find it for that price.

I also saw a post (in a different chat) by someone who said they recently purchased a NEW OEM HV battery for their Gen 2 Prius directly from Toyota of America for $1,600, but when I called them to inquire about it, was told that purchasing from a dealer was the only option for purchasing a new OEM battery...

 

At the dealer in my post Tracy Toyota list is 1,950 and the internet price is 1,714.48. My local Toyota dealer Always matches everything I buy there even though their list price is always higher than Tracy Toyota. And I pick up my parts at the counter

 

Thanks so much for the specifics ~ I'll check it out, and see if my dealer might match it, and otherwise, might make a run to Tracy when the time comes!

 

Tracey may be a bit of a haul. There are still a few dealers down in your area that were selling at that price or fairly close.

You will need a 'core' to turn in upon purchase, else they will make you pay the $1350 core charge up front.

 

You can’t just turn in a core at the counter like a 12v dead battery. You have to put it back in the container your new battery comes in and do some safety things. I would think there are a few Toyota dealers that would give the OP a good price, but your right, I don’t think a LA dealer would price match Tracy. It’s really far away. It’s local for my dealer. Bakersfield perhaps?

 

The price I listed was at Green's Toyota in Lexington KY, pretty much the cheapest dealer anywhere nearby for parts. Obviously not near you though.

 

Do not turn in your core at the time you pick up the new one.

There are many pieces that you must remove from the old battery and attach to the new one.
Computers
Vent tubes
End plate
Etc, etc....

Too often I've seen folks turn in their core and forget to take the old pieces. By the time they figure it out, their old core is gone. So they end up having to buy new parts to replace the missing pieces.

Bring the new battery home.
Go slow. Take the old parts off and transfer to the new pack.
Then return the core.

Yes.

 

That's an expensive recharging service. You're paying market rate for used modules, and not recovering any resale cost?

 

That’s there business model .

A lot of people use it.

The savvy know better and find alternatives .

 

Green Bean is based out of North Carolina. if you look them up in the NC Better Business Bureau, they have an "A-" rating.

 

The comment is not about their business rating, more on you are buying a used battery that has used modules and they are providing you with a “warranty” that it’ll be fine for the warranty period.

Most warranties you don’t need. On a used battery, you will depending on the length.
