can someone explain the NYS rebate?? is it taken off the price at the dealer? if so they are using it to reduce the dealer incentive i think...
i got 1953 off from the dealer in NJ and i will get 750 back from the state of PA. i would be pissed if they said,
"well you are getting 750 from the state, so we will only give you 1200 off , instead of 1950."
any details on what and how the NYS rebate works ?

You need to be a NY resident for the $1100 rebate. Unlike the Federal Tax Credit this is a rebate and is deducted at the time the vehicle is purchased. You must purchase the car from a NY dealer and you must keep the vehicle for at least 36 months.

I'm not able to post a link to the site because I just became a forum member. You can Google for "ny ev rebate" and find it easily enough.

Also, regarding the NYS rebate, the website has a list of participating dealers, so I guess they don't all necessarily participate. I think it's called the Drive Clean rebate. But yeah, you have to live and buy in NY.

For me they took the 1100 off the price. They didn't explicitly try to use that to reduce the dealer discount - when I first contacted them I said right off I'm looking for the 5k, the 1100, plus a decent dealer discount which should have nothing to do with the rebates, because I assume they get reimbursed for them by the state and manufacturer.

Also, only one dealer I looked at immediately listed the 5k and 1100 off as part of their initial price. The others would just come back and say (this was emails) "great news, our price for you is $28k" until I asked for those discounts. Possibly hoping the customer doesnt' know about them so that he, the dealer, can pocket them?

Oh yeah, and the tax is calculated before the 6100 = 5000 + 1100 total is taken off; so since you're paying tax on the 6100, your discount is really slightly less than 6100.

That's how the game works, the dealer wants to sell it for the most money they can get and the buyer wants to buy it for the least they can. If you're not in a hurry to buy, look for a dealer that has a lot 2018s in stock. Offer them $3,000 off sticker (for NY) and if they decline, leave them your name and number and tell them to call in a month.

That is very curious, my cash back on a 2018 PP Advance (and is listed on the Toyota build site) was $4,000. Did it happen to change from $5K last weekend? Or does the "customer cash" differ by 'package'?

    For the record:
Car purchased in Vermont on Feb 26, prior car was a 2009 with 140K miles when it was totalled on the 22nd
Prius Prime Advanced with All weather mats and cargo liner, Door edge guards and rear bumper applique:
MSRP $34,532 with delivery processing and handling fee
    Dealer discount $1,358 (*)
    Rebate $4,000
    Taxable $29,174
    Government Fee $128
    Processing/Doc fee $198
    Total taxes $1,762.32 (**)
    Check written for $31,200

The $4,500 tax credit has to wait until next year.

    * because I contacted them online and asked what the cash price was, that wasn't offered by the sales guy when the purchase started. When I told him the price I was quoted in an email from the internet sales lady, he said "OK that is the price". So ALWAYS get a internet sales quote to compare with the "in store" quote, they apparently don't have the same pricing model.

** I can reduce the taxes by the taxable amount of my totalled car as soon as the lady who hit me's insurance company accepts liability and pays for the car. At this point I don't know if they are going to be reasonable or try and lowball me.

No, that rebate is state specific. I think only NY and NJ have $5000. See reddy's posts above about regional rebates.

toyota's formula for selling primes in carb states is driven by the credits they receive in California from CARB.

it's too complicated to figure out, but suffice to stay most states are different, and most non carb states are zero, if you can find a prime at all.

even california rebates are lower than the northeast

Wow that’s about 3k lower than the best quote I got in the Bay Area. Is this a dealer in Sacramento?

We paid $26,650 OTD for our Prime Premium, purchased end of Feb. in NJ.

I don't have the paperwork in front of me, but here's our approx. breakdown:

    30,500 MSRP
    -5000 Toyota incentive
    -1600 dealer incentive
    +2750 TTL, fees, etc.

    = $26,650

Interesting they gave a rebate on a 2019. I understand them offering cash back to clear out the 2018s.

Was it 2019? Our local Toyota dealer still has all 2018 and no 2019 models.

@idriveaprius916's Vehicle under the avatar says 2019 so I ASSUME that is correct. Didn't see any '19s listed at dealers here either.
