It appears there are different Autopilot variants whose specific features and even names can change: Is it possible to get the autonomous cruise control without the rest of the autopilot? | Tesla Model 3 Owners Club

    • Started on "Traffic Aware Cruise Control (TACC)" on Dec 29, 2018
    • $3k "FSD" Autopilot does not include TACC
    • $5k "EAP" Autopilot does include TACC along with auto parking and other features
Now jump forward to today's AutoPilot description:
Design Your Model 3 | Tesla

Autopilot ($3k) - "Enables your car to steer, accelerate and brake automatically for other vehicles and pedestrians within its lane."

    Full Self-Driving Capability ($5k) -
    • Navigate on Autopilot: automatic driving from highway on-ramp to off-ramp including interchanges and overtaking slower cars.
    • Autopark: both parallel and perpendicular spaces.
    • Summon: your parked car will come find you anywhere in a parking lot. Really.
    Coming later this year:
    • Recognize and respond to traffic lights and stop signs.
    • Automatic driving on city streets.
Reading the online, Owner's Manual, it made specific reference to TACC, pp 67:

Note: Traffic-Aware Cruise Control is a BETA feature.

Note: If your vehicle is not equipped with the optional Enhanced Autopilot or Full Self-Driving Capability package, refer to the owner's manual on your vehicle's touchscreen for instructions on how to use Cruise Control

So two sources, user thread and online owner's manual indicate TACC requires the $5k "Enhanced Autopilot." But the web page I used to order my Model 3 says it or something like it is part of the $3k Autopilot.

I sent a note to Tesla support asking for clarification. But right now, I'm thinking of waiting until I get the car to find out. If my Autopilot has speed-only, cruise control, I'll be disappointed but know that for an extra $3k ($2k if ordered as part of the original) I can add it.

Found another source that matches my expectation: Tesla Changes Autopilot Feature Availability | Current Automotive

    • $3k - will get TACC and lane steering
    • $5k - needed for the autonomous driving features in the future

    To clear up the confusion:

    - EAP (Enhanced Autopilot) is no longer available, so we can take that out of the mix

    - The car comes with basic cruise control (not TACC) as standard that does not require the optional AP.

    - AP (Autopilot) a $3K option, comes with TACC, Autosteer (Lane Keep Assist self steering), and Auto Lane Change with confirmation (requires manually activating the turn signal)

    - FSD (Full Self-Driving) a $5K option, requires the $3K AP option so a total of $8K. It includes all the AP functions plus Navigate On Autopilot on highway, Autopark, basic Summon, and (coming later this year) Advanced Summon (the car will self drive and pick you up at the front of the store/restaurant), Navigate on Autopilot in the city, traffic light and stop sign recognition, Auto Lane Change without confirmation - plus additional FSD features as they become available in the future.

I have EAP on my car which is a hybrid system incorporating AP plus some of the FSD features. Elon extended an offer to current EAP owners to upgrade to FSD for $2K. I accepted that offer last weekend. That offer has now ended as of yesterday.

If TACC is only available with EAP, that makes it $8,000, and would be a crime! $20K+ Toyotas have TACC as standard equipment. Hopefully $3 gets the TACC included (still expensive).

Credible sources say it does. What we're finding is Tesla changes their products faster than the documentation other than: (1) web site, and (2) Musk tweets. A lot of folks don't understand but they don't have to.

ps. The prices I remember from February 28:
    • $3k - standard Autopilot, early order
    • $5k - navigation Autopilot, early order
If still available, I would save $1.5k on the paint to get the early order, navigation Autopilot. Paint vs performance, the standard Autopilot meets my mandatory requirements. Paint and navigation Autopilot are optional and I have a limited amount of money to spend.

After my 1200 miles road trip in my new Model 3, I can confirm that Autopilot has TACC. It does not however have auto lane changing (even with stalk confirmation). That was sent to full self driving.

The TACC on my Tesla is 10 times more advanced than the TACC on my $40K PIP.
For the base model 3, standard, old fashioned control is included
AP (autopilot) is a $2K option (more if purchased after delivery) which includes TACC, auto steering, and basic summons (back out of garage)
FSD (full self driving) which is in early development and should really be called "Advanced Autopilot" not FSD is an ADDITIONAL $3K option (more if purchased after delivery) includes auto lane change, auto navigation, advanced summons (car will come from the parking lot and pick you up at the front of the store/restaurant), stoplight/stop sign auto recognition, autopilot on city streets with more to come later.

Ah, then your car didn't come with EAP, it came with the basic AP option. That explains it. I'[m sure Tesla will be offering you a free trial of the FSD option soon. You will pay more, but at least you can try it before you buy it. Wife and I are hooked on the Advanced Autopilot stuff.

Looks like you are correct on everything except the AP price. It is $3k for us. It was only $2k for those folks that hadn't purchased EAP and have the option after the big price drops of the vehicle itself.

Yeah, you are correct. At this moment, AP is $3K and FSD is an additional $5K. Prices have changed so frequently in the last 30 days, it is hard to keep up. I was responding to @bwilson4web who purchased AP Feb. 28. As I recall, he would have paid $2K for AP and FSD for $3K at that time. There were a lot of complaints by those who purchased EAP as recently as Dec. 2018 for $5K and FSD wasn't even an option for them at that time. Elon quickly realized the error and changed the pricing of FSD for those who had already purchased EAP

I purchased EAP for $5K in Dec. 2018. AP was not an option then while EAP is no longer an option now. I was able to upgrade to FSD for an additional $2K earlier this month, for a total of $7K. Had I purchased EAP and FSD earlier in 2018 or 2017, it would have been $8K (EAP 5K + FSD 3K). I was able to save $1K by purchasing during the two week sale earlier this month. Today, purchasing AP + FSD prior to delivery is $8K (3K + 5K). If purchased after delivery, AP ($4K) or FSD ($7K) is $11K. The FSD option requires that the AP option be purchased first. Neither AP nor FSD is necessary to make the model 3 a fantastic car, the acceleration, cornering, user interface, and OTA updates are still the same. It is just that AP + FSD options put the "F" in FUTURE of the car.

My explanation probably makes things as clear as mud, but that's the fun of working with a car maker that is still in BETA testing! :D

Since he has not taken delivery, I would guess at $0. :D

    • Basic Autopilot does not include lane keeping - forces hands on <grins>
    • Traffic Adaptive Cruise Control - does not suffer optical problems of BMW i3 dynamic cruise control and better speed range than Toyota TSS-P. For example, when stopped and traffic moves out, the car starts without having to touch accelerator that the other two require. Works up to 90 mph and is not limited by posted speed limits.
    • SPACE - 5 seats instead of 4; wife's folding wheel chair fits in trunk with room to spare, and; large frunk.
    • QUIET - the only engine sounds we hear are from other traffic.
    • Media - playing from iPhone remains ... a mystery. I haven't found how to address specific albums, artists, or tunes from the car menus.
    • USB cable - comes with one but since my iPhone is in a water and shock resistance cover, some assembly is required. I may leave cell phone unlocked more often.

    Congrats @bwilson4web !
I think you mean basic autopilot doesn't include lane change. It does lane keep very nicely.
As far as media from the iPhone I don't think you have the option to use your iPhone like an iPod on our old Gen3 Prii. The bluetooth setup simply plays whatever audio is playing on your phone. You probably already knew that though.
How long did you spend Supercharging on the way home? Any range issues?

Wise choice @bwilson4web, welcome to the Tesla family.

It appears from Bob's Monroney sticker (hard for my old eyes to make out) he has VIN 299XXX manufactured in March, 2019. Compare that to my VIN 168XXX manufactured in December, 2018, that is 130,000+ model 3s manufactured in 3 months or about 10K cars per week and by extrapolation a potential for 1M cars per year. IMPRESSIVE! I don't understand why the SEC is giving Elon such a bad time about his Tweets, he appears to be doing what his Tweets are saying.

It also appears that Bob did not purchase Autopilot option since it is not listed on the sticker. Therefore I believe it will cost him $4K if he adds it after delivery..

I paid $16K more for my car than Bob on his, What I got for that $16K is an additional 24 miles range, the full $8K EAP/FSD package. all the bells and whistles $3.5K premium white interior, $500 additional Pearl White exterior, and an additional $3,750 Federal tax credit. Our cars look exactly the same on the exterior other than color (plus the modifications I'm making to the exterior to set it apart). I think Bob got a good deal. He got exactly what he wanted. I think I got a good deal. I got exactly what I wanted. I feel Bob will become as addicted to the model 3 as much as the rest of us model 3 owners on this forum. It's a win-win for all of us, a commitment to the Green New Deal.

Autopilot does include Lane Keep assist. it does not include auto Lane Change. Be aware that if you are in Autopilot and want to manually change lanes, the car will jerk a bit as you take over manual control to turn the wheel. The way to eliminate that jerk is to take the car out of Autopilot before turning the wheel, is with a simple tap UP on the right stock. Either way, you will have to re-engage Autopilot with a tap DOWN on the right stock after making the lane change.
I've taken measurements and the trunk on my model 3 and it is essentially the same dimensions with the rear seat folded down as my Prius with the rear seats folded down. However, the model 3 is not as convenient to load as my Prius with the hatchback.

We have used the frunk much more than I would have ever imagined. My wife is a stickler for keeping food items cold when returning from the market. I added self opening struts to the frunk lid so it now pops all the way open, automatically ,very convenient. I bought her a high quality, soft sided insulated bag and re-freeze ice pouches for Christmas. The bag takes up about half the space in the frunk leaving room for other items. She is as happy as can be - the bag keeps frozen items rock hard on her drive home (Trader Joe's, Sprouts, and Costco are all about 30 minutes away).

It doesn't have the option to play directly from a Smartphone at this time. Will probably be added in a future OTA update. In the meantime, I downloaded Itunes onto a thumbdrive (4K+ songs) and play my favorite. The U.I. recognizes the thumbdrive and displays your songs and albums on the U.I. screen. Just tap on what you want and away you go!

Yes, if you keep your smartphone in an elaborate case (like I do) the USB cables can be inconvenient. I installed a wireless charging pad (the Nomad, available on Amazon) and the phone charges with the case on, Problem solved.

The option is grayed out and double clicking the right stalk (also cruise control stalk) reports the option needs to be enabled. I also called Tesla service and they also report mine does not do lane keeping. IMHO, there is a 'transition' going on.
I was always able to select and play the album in both the BMW and Prime. There appears to be a menu to show them, the "search", but so far it has defeated me.
It had 220 miles on the battery indicator and Huntsville is only 120 miles away. So I 'tested' the maximum speed of the Traffic Aware (i.e., dynamic) Cruise Control. It was stable at 90 mph on an interstate posted at 70 mph and known to the car to be 70 mph.

So far, no reason to visit a SuperCharger but I have a plan to visit Tunica to do RV park camping with my wife and her three dogs ... Tesla Model 3 camping. Motels have a dim view of comfort dogs. We'll visit the Memphis TN, Tupelo MS, and Arab AL SuperChargers.

Here is a review by a model 3 Vlogger after putting 26K miles on his car. Interesting and is consistent with my experiences after 3K miles. (You can fast forward through the Amazon commercial midway through.)
