hello all ive attatched the video to show u the noise it just started today. it makes a loud almost static like pinball noise coming from behind the dash. checked oil it is kind of low but not dangerously low. any advice is appreciated i dont want to keep driving and damage the car for good it has 197k 2008 prius. hybrid battery seems OK i get 40mpg
by the way the check engine is on due to converter needing to be replaced my mechanic said it was my heating vents and "fixed it" last time I was there. the code came back for converter however this noise is brand new as of today
Is it behind the dash or in the engine sounds like it’s behind the dash. I have never heard that sound before. And what is converter? Converter and heating vents don’t have a clue what your talking about but if someone was in the dash messing with the vents there you go.
So we haven't determined if it is coming from the inside or outside of the car? Try changing the fan speed, that will eliminate one.
i went to autozone for codes read i got p300 p301 p302 pretty much all codes saying that cylinder 1,2,3 and 4 are all missfiring then have another saying multiple missfires then have another code saying the cadilac converter is below threshold limit. i assume that it is clogged and thats whats making the noise? that or my engine knocking? i did notice a bad loss in gas mpg and it is very very loud on start up driving etc. my question is now can i still drive to work every day cause my mechanic is busy for a week and i dont live around public trans. if it is misfiring on all cylinders and the cadilac converter is gone or clogged is it safe to drive with windows down and going slow?
Answer this question. Open the hood then start the car. Is the noise coming from the engine or behind the dash? Cat is shot probably because the engine eats oil bad. Engine may be out of oil. Rolling misfires can sometimes be blown engine. Blown bearings from lack of oil cause engine damage that causes bad engine vibration. Bad vibration distorts sensor readings that engine ecu detects as missfires, Probably so much vibration engine in limp model. Or plug wells filled with oil shorting out the plug cops and you really are seeing multiple misfires.
the vibration is so bad it doesn't sound like engine knock. you may have multiple issues but right now it sounds like a heat shield or something has broken loose and is rattling around. Does this happen if you idle and rev it?
Yes as soon i start it and it rattles and when i take my foot on and off the gas and it sounds more of a static noise with vibration and stays consistent while driving
my suggestion is go to a muffler shop lots of them have free inspections. I bet it is a loose heat shield on your exhaust system.
