Donut size spare for Prius prime

Unfortunately your Prius v donut wheel Won't work because the bolt pattern is to big at 5x114.

The 135/80-16 tire size is the correct diameter at ~24.8", you would just need the correct 16x4" 5x100 steel wheel to make it work.

Search Ebay, I'm seeing alot of new/used Toyota donuts for sale in the ~$75 to ~$99 shipped price range. Here's a cheap example for you, you'd Need to message the seller because they're not showing the tire size which needs to be a 135/80-16.

There’s no room on the Prime to store that spare tire unless you want to use that trunk space.

 

My model is the 2018 Prime Advanced:
Based on a call to my local Toyota dealer for fit confirmation, I ordered the Toyota (17x4") "wheel Disc" 4261147631 then searched for a matching donut tire. Pickens for the tire were slim but I found the T125/70D-17 YOKOHAMA Y870C SL tire on Tire Rack. Brought the rim/tire to my local repair guy today for mounting and crossed my fingers for a fit. Just got it back, fit perfect he said. I am very pleased to now have a spare and very upset with Toyota for not at least offering a spare as an option. I might be an old schooler (driving a PMT, Poor Man's Tesla) but I am not driving a car without a spare tire, the goop repair option is laughable. Will likely keep it behind the passenger seat as suggested somewhere in these threads. Thanks to everyone out there who posted about this! .

 

Anyone know if the Subaru space-saver spare would also work on the Prime? Such as this one - 2006 SUBARU LEGACY Mini Compact Space Saver Donut Spare Wheel Tire T135/80R16 | eBay

 

The tire size is virtually perfect at 24.8".

What's the bolt pattern of this Non-Toyota manufacture ??

Bolt pattern, hub opening, offset, lug nut seat style, center cap, lots of variables. I'd be inclined to keep it kosher. This is the 4th gen Prius part:

I don't know how much space you can save by having a donut spare in PRIME's cargo. You will be limited 50 miles at 50 mph max with a donut on it. I bought a full size wheel and put one of good tire when I had to replace a pair of tire when one was not fixable. You can get aftermarket full size steel wheel for about $50~70. I don't carry it in the car all the time, but I have it stored in my garage in case I need it.

 

That's not onerous. A flat is a once in a blue moon event, and the temp spare's design purpose is just to get you out of harm's way, to some place where you can repair/replace the regular tire. It's a pretty good trade-off.

i appreciate the values of a full-size spare too, say if you're on a road trip, but a temp spare is pretty good.

 

Yeah, I totally understand usefulness of a compact spare tire for most cars if there is a space saver location you can store it in the car all the time. The problem is that Prime has no such space. Whither you have a donut spare or full size spare, you are going to have to sacrifice already limited cargo space and come up with some inventful idea to securely store it. The size difference between full size and donut for this case is minimal, but having a full size tire is much more useful IMO.

 

Thank you, Gagoo. Now I received my wheel disc and tire today. Did yours come with a valve stem? Or did your repair guy insert one for you?

 

Tire installers typically supply the valve.

 

To all future readers of this thread:

Try NOT to buy into a T125/70-17 spare tire size because their overall diameter is small at 23.9" inches. Remember that your Prime OE tire is 25.0" inches diameter and you want a spare tire that's close to this overall diameter. A 135/80-16 spare which has a 24.8" inch overall diameter would be a much better choice.

1. Yes, thank you. But the wheel appears to be correct. Here is a link that states the wheel is appropriate for Prius Prime, advanced and premium.
2. According to Gagoo the T125/70-17 was a perfect fit. So I guess I need to work harder with the Toyota dealer to find an appropriate tire.

Any comments?

 

What if you just ordered and spare for a gen 4 trim three? Not the cheapest option, I'm sure, but perhaps the most expedient. I hope they didn't change the bolt pattern when they made the Prime. That would just be spiteful!

 

Yeah I think gen 3 Prius, Gen 4 Prius and Prime are all the same tires and rims. Get a 3 or 4 Gen Prius temp spare and you'll be good, say rim thru Toyota and tire you can look up on tire rack, either order there or local. Tire spec in Prius owners manual.

 

I read in other thread, Gen3 spares works as well. If I had known that, I would have taken out the spare from my previous Gen3 Prius before trading it in. But since I didn't, and when I had early puncture on my Gen3 tire and I bought a pair instead of single tire. I had the extra good tire put on the steely as a full size spare for my Gen3. I never used it, but that's what I have for my PRIME now. In fact ordering a cheap steel wheel for a full size tire is cheaper than buying compact spare tire and a rim.
