My neighbor was selling her 2007 Prius for $1500. I talked with her grandson (her agent) and he dropped it down to $1300. I bought it for that price. Pros. Low mileage 85,211. Good Tires. Runs. No body damage. Cons. Triangle of death. P0A80 code with P3015 code. Needs new 12V battery. Needs new HV battery according to their mechanic. MFD is not working. Needs TLC/detailing of interior. The roof has significant sun damage as we are in San Diego, CA. So what are your thoughts? What would you pay for a Gen 2 Prius in this condition? What is the selling price for a Gen 2 Prius with these miles and these problems fixed?
New factory battery 2000 plus install. New 12v battery around 160 plus install. Rebuilt MFD, I think they are around 200 plus install. So car and parts 3660. Good price if you can do the work yourself. What do Prius sell for where you live? Haveing low mileage and a new factory battery is a big plus. Should more than cover the bad paint.
MilkyWay, So true. Jumping headlong into this project to make the Prius fully drivable and then getting it smogged for title transfer has been a haul. 1)Cost of Vehicle $1300. 2)ACDelco 12V $120. 3)Brand new Deal Hybrid Battery $2150. 4)Professional Interior Detail $90. My math says $3660. I did all the work. Skibob, I looked in the offerup app. The greater San Diego listings are between $4800-$4999. None listed indicates a new factory battery. Mileage is in the 150k to 200k range. Ive seen one company, autobeyours, charging $299 to rebuild the MFD. Any suggestions where I can get it rebuilt cheaper?
I don’t personally know where to get it done cheaper, somewhere here might though. With a new factory battery you would be able to sell the car fast at the 4999 level probably more. A new factory battery is gold in these cars.
Car-part.com just make sure has same amount of buttons dont listen to the nonsense that there are 15 different versions. U could call dealer with vin and they will tell u your exact version but the 9 speaker is more expensive. Mine said it had 9 speakers and junkyard wanted $250. I went with a 6 speaker and it was $55 and worked perfectly. I believe it is under TV screen on car-part.com. eBay has them also but not as cheap as junkyards
We got a 2007 Prius with 70K miles on odometer. We replaced/serviced several items within 10 months of ownership. Replaced 12v AGM BATTERY, replaced stock stereo ( the dash plastic vent trim is brittle, I broke 2 of the 4 trim pieces that , for example, outline the park button , during my Crutchfield Stereo install, after registering the triangle of death I got a hybrid shop to replace 2 of 26 modules on the traction battery, that repair lasted 3-4 months, then elected to swap the whole traction battery with a refurbished one with 2 yr warranty from independent hybrid shop. The gen 2 suffers from rain getting in from the top corners of the hatchback. Stopped those leaks with silicone sealant. Drained and filled the transmission fluid ( what should of been dark red came out purple and dark ). Just my 2 cents.
Fern 1461. Your first Prius? Since getting this 2007 up and running. I resprayed the sun damaged roof $350. Had it professionally tinted $350. Purchased and install WeatherTech window deflectors $115 amazon. Purchased new floor mats $180 for all five. That pushes the cost to $4660.
Sounds like you made it perfect. And with only 85k miles and near perfect with brand new battery you have a really good price. As we speak there is a little online dealer auction for a 2008 with 77k miles. Appears to be very good condition with super clean leather. Still 24 hours remaining on the auction and dealers already bid it to $5600. That is before fees/shipping..and is just their break-even point. And they will know nothing about it. Clean and low miles go for really high at dealers auction. I have no idea how they sell them. Toyota customers are super picky.
I got these on mine for $18.99 lol. Wonder what the difference is? For mats I got laser fit weather techs for $50 I think on Craigslist. Although I have spent right around $180 on prior Priuses brand new mats but that only got me 1st and 2nd row (not trunk I think around $250 for all five). I am 100% behind the weather tech mats just not sure on the window deflectors.
I guess everything more expensive in Cali but $350 for tint? Pretty sure it is about half of that in Michigan for 5 windows. I did 5 but then got a ticket for front tints so now just have limo on the back 3.
Milkyway, your car looks great. As for the WeatherTech window deflectors, they fit into the the same space as the glass so are very secure. Just did a road test. Im averaging 48MPG on the highway. That's with the stock 15's on Pirelli P4 all season tires. Maybe not the best for top MPG
