Owner all of three weeks..I have read a lot of posts regarding lost key fobs etc...So I purchased a new key fob (now I have 3).. My strategy is for my wife and I to have one each and then have a battery less key fob hidden inside the car ( since that would still start the car), with an extra mechanical key in my wallet or hidden somewhere outside the car. Key fob #3 is not programmed yet...Along with the unit came instructions to program it..One person who used the instructions semi successfully said that he programmed it properly, but then noticed he pressed on button once to many times and deprogrammed his other key fob.. He also stated that one of the two fobs we receive at delivery is a master. If the master is deprogrammed Toyota could charge up to a $1000 to re do the whole system...Fact or fiction???? would it just be easier and potentially cheaper to get Toyota to simply program the new fob and forget about it? Your responses are appreciated. If anyone from Toyota sees this your response is also appreciated...THanks

A long while ago I lost one of my fobs, and had the dealer order one. The funny thing is that the dealer claimed that they couldn't program it on my car. Wth? So I ended up doing a google search and I found some instructions, followed them properly, and I got the new fob to work (while keeping the old fob working as well) Granted it took a while to finally get the timing right, but it worked and I was proud of myself for outsmarting the techs.... Needless to say, this is another reason why I'm changing dealers. Interestingly enough I can't find the link now to where I got the instructions from... it was on site that claimed it worked with the European Prii.... luiset83, when you say the programming worked, was that to use the remote to unlock the doors, or actually start the car? I have a keyfob that came with "instructions", but it only made the remote work the door locks. It does not start the car, not working as the ignition key. I can't find anywhere where this "car start" programming is avaialble for my 2005 "non-sks" keyfob. Thanks.

I managed to find the instructions; these are the original work of Victor, I believe. I just retyped them from the printout I made almost 2 years ago. Enjoy! These instructions are tested on a 2004 Toyota Prius to enable the SKS, door unlock/lock, and car start functionality. update: I did a slight edit because of a mistake I made typing, replacing 'registered key' with 'master key' on the delete all keys table... shouldn't affect anyone trying to add keys or do the SKS steps, though... they won't charge you to replace the whole ecu... unless they want to really screw you over. http://priuschat.com/index.php?showtopic=22210& i haven't heard of any way to program the smartkey function without the scantool, but i haven't looked at the instructions linked above. you can program the "dumb key" functions with some raindance like procedure, though.
