If a 81 2A F1 81 will trigger a bus init, then TPMS is available with the ELM :).

When I tried 83 F0 2A C1 D9 8F several years ago, there was no response. Note that the 2nd sequence uses the Mongoose id of F0, while the ELM is at F1. So maybe a 83 F1 2A C1 D9 8F would work.

All of the F0 device addresses in my TPMS documentation need to be changed to F1 for the ELM.

Well I tried address 2A and got the dreaded BUS INIT ... ERROR. I then tried a few others, some got BUS INIT ... OK and others got ERROR. I guess there may be something more to the KWP bus than I had thought. :(

Have you tried Fast Init, ATSP5? The data captured by RobH suggested it is using FI. I think RobH had the msg. reversed, 83 F0 2A C1 D9 8F should be the reply.

Yes I forgot to say that I tried atsp5 on address 29 and got BUS INIT ERROR, while atsp4 does work on address 29. I also noticed RobH's comments about Fast Init. I will try atsp5 on other addresses and see what happens.

BTW - has anyone an update on this ? - esp. from later prius-versions ?
I have an elm-1.3a - and I really tried all the suggestions found in multiple threads,
but I just never succeded with the BUS-INIT :-( (while techstream works)
the only positive side effect of this is, that I'm now quite familiar with the ELM's AT-cmd-set ;-)

I have a Toyota Hilux 2013 model and want to read the ABS codes (the ABS light is ON). I did the exact same initialization as you said above but it gave me BUS INIT: ...ERROR
Any help on other ways to do a successful BUS INIT?

Sorry it's a long time ago and I don't have any further info about this. Good luck!
