When I am going at a low speed usually getting ready to part I hear a slight sound that appears to be coming from the drivers side down low. Any idea what that would be?
Is it kind of a consistent ratcheting sound, like clicking? And heidm asked but you didn't answer. Can you clarify what you meant when you said, when you were getting ready to part? Park?
I meant park, sorry about that. It seems to usually be tied to pressing the brake. It is more of a clicking or "zzz" sound.
It might be the brake system. It adjusts the pressure in it's storage tank and there's a little compressor that makes that kind of sound. Typically, you have your foot on the brake when you park. Try shifting to N and taking your foot off the brake (assuming you're level and safe doing this) and then press the P button and see if the sound goes away. I don't think it's anything to worry about.
My Prius has a constant little buzzing sound just above my shoulders. And voices. Sometimes there's voices.
I noticed that mine does that too. It's normal. Though I did notice that when I first got the car, after I shut it down, I could hear this whine sound, that runs for about 10 seconds or so, then shuts off. I learned thats the transfer pump. Anyways, Latley I noticed that it sounds kinda sandy now. Like if there was pieces of sand or something. I have a feeling that is not normal. maybe the bearings are going out on it. we will see. It's a 05 with about 7,800 miles on it.
I have about 7200 miles on mine right now and it is doing the same thing. I have a tread out there about my experience so far with trying to get a dealer to acknowledge it. Let me try to find that and link it here. Well, it appears that the entire topic about my loud hot coolant transfer pump was lost during the recent Priuschat loss. That really sucks.
What ever became of your noise? Did you get a new pump or are they still trying to find the source of the noise? To bad the thread got lost, .
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(rick57 @ Oct 14 2005, 09:48 PM) </div> I have the same noise. Bumping to see if anyone else has a metallic rattle/buzz coming from the driver's side B-pillar area. I've had mine into the dealer 2x and haven't gotten it corrected yet.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Bill Merchant @ Oct 11 2005, 02:00 PM) </div> I hear it in my 2006 from time to time, and only when braking. It does sound like a tiny compressor or well-insulated vibratory pump.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(BenR @ Aug 25 2006, 09:26 AM) </div> Not the braking system..its a buzz in the cabin where the driver's seatbelt connects to the B-pillar.
I had this problem. The dealer didn't fasten the nut that is holding a plastic flap that is located in front of the rear tires. Maybe you can try to see if any plastic flaps are loose?
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(heimdm @ Oct 11 2005, 11:10 AM) </div> I took my '07 in to the dealer today for the same noise and the mechanic told me it was the ABS pump and sure enough, even if the car is parked, pressing the brake pedal multiple times will produce this noise. Mine seemed louder than the other two cars he tested but they all made that noise. Kind of annoying but it's not something they will address since they all seem to do it.
