Bluetooth Sound Quality Phone Poll!

Motorola V551 with Cingular. Sound quality has been very good (when the carrier quality has been good).

 

I am a Verizon subscriber and am considering getting this phone. How did you upload your phone book initially? Via a PC? Any other Verizon-imposed limitations?

 

I have a Motorola E815 through Verizon. Sound quality is excellent only you have to make sure the phone is back of the nav screen, ie towards the back of the car. Could not enter the phone book due to Verizon blockage of file transfer, however, went on Ebay, bought a non-Verizon Sony Ericsson T616 phone for $46.00 and use it to make the phone book entries. Worked great. But, we do love the E815 phone.

 

Just got our 2005 Prius which is GREAT but the sound quality with Verizon V710 is TERRIBLE - totally unusable.
Would prefer to stay with Verizon ... what phones are giving good sound quality ???

I finally ditched Verizon because I had no coverage near my home. Signed up with Cingular which is working great. I bought the Sony Ericcson Z525a. I'm still working on setting the entire system up, but I was able to get the phone and car to recognize each other. I had my wife call me to test it, and it worked great. The sound quality was surprisingly good. It's very cool to answer the phone without having to touch the phone.

 

I've used 3 phones with the system all using Verizon's network.

HTC XV6700 (Windows Smartphone)
Motorola Q
LG VX8100

All the phones have the same audio performance. However I had problems with the two smartphones. In all honesty my lowly LG phone worked the best (without dropping calls or other weird occurences). Caller ID works OK. However one caveat is that usually it works better if you have your phone book installed in the Prius. I've had occasions where the BT on the car will ring with an incoming call (I will wait for the Caller ID) but the number never shows.

I agree in general with the problems about single-duplex (Layman Terms: 1 person talking at a time) problems. I have had sporadic problems at first but i've noticed that if you're driving with your windows rolled up you shouldn't really have any problems with the microphone. I use this alot for business calls actually.

I had a very different experience with those two phones. The T637 was horrible, completely unusable with the Prius. The RAZR is 100x better for me - I can actually make calls and understand what the other person is saying.

Maybe there was a firmware upgrade for the T637 that I didn't have. I was an AT&T Wireless subscriber before the acquisition, perhaps there was a difference in the T637s that were sold by Cingular vs. AT&T Wireless.

 

Nokia 6682 and Samsung D807, good to very good sound quality, Cingular, and we do get caller ID with both phones.
Other minor things that dont bother me much: I do not get battery or signal info with the Nokia which maybe becuase of some kind of a setting; ring tone is generic; phone book transfer is one at a time (OK the last one bothers me a bit :angry: ).
Things I like: Seamless connectivity - I can get into the car talking over the phone, start the car - the car takes over or vice-versa and there is no need to break a conversation!

 

I have Verizon and Motorola RAZR. Sound quality is fine, better and louder than the Jabra headset. If I use the headset on the highway I can barely hear a word with the windows rolled up.

Duplexing takes a tiny bit of adjustment in how you speak, but it's not a major issue for me. I'm not on the phone often while driving because I find it to be very distracting, but I'm still glad I have the Prius BT.

 

Verizon LG VX8100.

Mostly good audio reports, but when the caller is in a noisey envorinment, the received report is worse.

I had to manually enter all numbers in address book.

I wish Toyota had included a voice activated dialer, by name, like my phone does. Is this possible?

 

RAZR...Cingular....no Nav system.

Great sound quality....Have to keep an eye on the signal....but great!

I am surprised that no one has mentioned the effect of the AC vent on sound quality. I can tell you from personal experience that this has a DRAMATIC effect on the quality of all sound picked up from the overhead microphone. Try this experiment....

Get someone on the phone, and have them report to you how your voice sounds when the air vent is directed upward toward the microphone. Feel the air blowing over the microphone port. Then redirect the AC vent downward so that you no longer feel any air movement over the microphone port, and get a second report of the audio quality.

When I have done this experiment, I get vast improvements in intelligibility of the audio, particularly when the AC fan is blowing medium to high.

What a great suggestion....my sound quality is quite good most of the time...but I do have my vents directed downward almost all of the time...I don't like it blowing on me, nor does my husband....

This may be why I have such good sound quality.

unfortunately, I rarely use the a/c so that's not the problem for me.

 

Once I updated the PalmOne Treo 650 firmware, it not only connected immediately but has performed flawlessly. Sound quality is very good to excellent ... better than holding the phone to my ear or using any of my present headphones.

Took me about 45 minutes sitting in the car on Sunday morning to get all my addresses, speed dials, etc configured the way I wanted, but it was worth the effort.

But what is the quality for the person listening to your conversation? The quality coming through is great for me listening, but on the other end, my voice appears to sound crackily.

Does it still sound like that even when you're not using the Prius's hands-free system? Try both the hands-free and just the phone from the same location and see what results you turn up.

 

Just got an LG VX8300 (Verizon)-works great. very clear sound (people did not know I was in the car, or on speakerphone). also, i was able to load 10 contacts at a time (some contacts having multiple numbers). loaded about 75 contacts (110 numbers) in about 5 minutes. battery drain definately is accelerated by keeping BT open, but so far i'm impressed with both the phone and the BT.
