Well I am a little anal about lubricants:

ENGINE

• First change around 2,000 miles including the oil filter - this gets the initial manufacturing and seating material out of the engine before they can do more damage. Think of the first oil as break-in loaded with a bunch of stuff that should be gotten rid of ASAP.
• Change in Spring with oil filter - takes out the winter condensate that acidifies the oil. Also change the air filter.
• Change in Fall with oil filter - takes out the summer pollen and dust. Also change the air filter.

TRANSMISSION

• First change with 2-5,000 miles - this gets the initial manufacturing and sealing material out before they can do more damage.
• Second change at 15-25,000 miles - about 1/4th to 1/3d of the original oil can not be drained from the transmission. This change dilutes the rest to insignificant levels.
• Change every 150-250,000 miles - normal wear materials will accumulate and the additives will be used up.

1. 2017 Prius Prime Plus has less depreciation loss. Also, it lacks fast DC charging and the 25 mi EV range is less than the 72 mi of the BMW i3-REx. Cold weather rules can lead to unplanned engine operation.
2. 2014 BMW i3-REx has 168 hp rear-wheel drive and at 2,900 lbs with short wheel base, very quick in traffic. It is a better backup for the Model 3.

A 'fly in the ointment,' I got an e-mail that Alabama is one of a set of states that block Tesla from financing a car: https://cars.usnews.com/cars-trucks/your-guide-to-buying-a-car-out-of-state

Regardless, my local banker has already approved my loan application. Worse comes to worse, I can sell some stock and cut the monthly loan payment down to a nuisance charge.

I suspect Tesla can still take the trade-in, I did ask. It may take a day or so to find out. The Tesla offer is very nice and solves an inventory problem. If not, I'll re-open the auction knowing there is always "Carmax", today's version of a car pawn shop.
