Hi guys and gals. Sorry if this has been answered before but a search did not reveal anything. Regarding the resin moonroof: 1) is there a product for polishing out fine scratches/swirl marks on it? 2) would window tint work on the resin or will it peel and bubble?
I'd be afraid to polish the resin panoramic roof exterior due to potentially making it worse. When my wife's pano roof got stains from a leaking parking garage roof a few years ago, I used wet microfiber towels over and over to gently, little by little, to remove the stain making sure I didn't trap any grit in the towel and do more damage. I've noticed that the roof has lots of tiny scratches - maybe they are from dirt, grit and road salt - but they aren't all that noticeable. The problem with window tint is that it can and does sometimes fail and has to be removed which can require using ammonia and razor blades. I've removed tint from several vehicle windows before taking the vehicle to a tint shop to have the windows re-tinted. Except for a case when a body shop employee didn't notice the aftermarket tint and inadvertently damaged it with a commercial cleaning agent, I don't know why tint has failed. I've always had it professionally applied and have used only name brand (3M, Llumar) tint. As a side note, I had tint fail on the back window of a vehicle and was told that it was impossible to remove the tint without trashing the defroster grid - which is why I will never again have tint applied over a defroster grid. I had only the four large side windows in my wife's Prius v tinted and left the tiny side windows and the rear hatch window untinted. I never open the pano roof sunshade when I'm driving my wife's Prius when the sun is shining due to feeling too much heat. I'm not in the Prius much - only to take it to the car wash and to fuel it. I never use automatic car washes since they can inflict damage including scratching vehicle exteriors. My wife absolutely loves the pano roof and has the shade open whenever she's in her Prius and I'm not there to nag her to close it. .
Hello all I have a question and can't figure out how to post. But my 2013 prius v has the moon roof and I recently bought the car used and the glass is very cloudy. It looks like a lot of small cracks/scratches. Kinda like a fogged headlight. And the car does have sun damage on the paint. I am wondering is there some way this can be like polished out or something similar like you can do on cloudy headlights?
As far as polishing out scratches, I would be afraid of making it worse. I use Turtle FlexWax to give mine some protection. It adheres well, can be used on all surfaces, and has some (probably very limited) UV protection. It’s not expensive, and very easy to apply/maintain.
I have used these on the plastic windows of the convertible top on my 1966 MGB with very good results. Not sure if they would work on the pano roof of the Prius or not. Meguiars M1708 Mirror Glaze Clear Plastic Cleaner Meguiars M10 Mirror Glaze® Clear Plastic Polish V
I’m having the same issues with a 2012 Prius v with advanced technology package. Tiny cracks throughout the surface of the resin panoramic moonroof. I’m thinking of having someone sand down the surface to remove all cracks/surface imperfections then buff and/or polish to bring back clarity and shine. Possibly finishing off with paint protection film to give it UV protection. Has anyone done this with any success?
Matt, did you try this and did you have success? I just bought a 2014 and have the same issue. Thanks
I I recommend using an acrylic polishing paste. It is designed for plastic (or polymer) and removes fine scratches. They tend to not be cheap, but they do a great job.
