My lease is coming up for my Prime and it looks like I'm going Model 3. I was thinking about getting the Prine Premium with all the bells and whistles. But the price will be close to $39,000 and I can get a nice Model 3 a couple Grand more. So it looks like I have to say goodbye to the Prius Prime family. What I don't understand is the 2020 version Prius Prime have not upgrade the Toyota safty like in the new Toyota Corolla .They did not doing anything. It looks like they phasing out the Prius for the Toyota Corolla. Toyota pushing hydrogen fuel cells ignoring that everybody else are going towards plug-in electric cars. Toyota was a leader but now I believe they're going to be falling behind. I know Toyota wants to bring the fleet into all hybrid vehicles. Not a bad idea because they get good fuel mileage however the point that EV in the next few yesrs coming down the road and people want them. Hyundai , Kia, Nissan are already coming out EV cars at $35k and under. Not to mention the high-end models Porsche or BMW Audi the rest of them coming out with electric vehicles. Don't get me wrong I love my Prius Prime Advance. Remember all those Prius Prime commercials you don't see em now. No deals on the car.

Buy and enjoy the best car you can afford, life is short. You'll notice a big power difference when you're driving a model 3 vs a Prius prime

You didn’t mention the VW ID .3 coming out later this year with deliveries in 2020.

Now there is an interesting battery electric vehicle!

Please keep us posted on your experience in a new Tesla forum thread!
I am going to give m3 some serious consideration this summer.
I don’t need the ev range , and we have Hyman for long trips, but it sounds like fun and who knows, perhaps mrs bisco will become a believer:cool:

Toyota is playing it smart. USA is the biggest market for Toyota. Do you see everyone running out to buy a Tesla? No they are all buying SUV’s and Trucks. There is much more money to be made selling what people want. When the time comes to get into selling EV’s they will be ready. I personally don’t want an EV at this time. It would not work for my needs.

By the time I am ready for a new car I hope there is an even better choice but we all know how that goes. Say in five years you are ready for that new car and then there is something coming out in the near future and there lies the problem. :)

It depends what you want with the options. Tax and title brings it up to that amount. The add-ons bring it on like the complete car wraps, the emblem on the door match the different options they have for the car brings it up to that price.

I like the Tesla and it would mostly fit my driving pattern, but there's just no way where I live. Not many charging stations and nobody to work on them.

The Corolla is all new. The Prius is an existing design. Upgrades to an existing design aren't usually something major; those are mostly saved for the redesign The safety systems in Corolla likely uses different sensors, or even mount them where it isn't possible in the current Prius. If the Prius doesn't receive an upgrade, a lower production offshoot, like the Prime is less likely to get it.

I paid 30k for my pip 7 years ago. with 12 miles of ev range, uncomfortable interior, noisy, poor infotainment, mediocre paint and body parts, no winter heat unless you start the engine, and a long list of recalls.

I still love it. M3 can’t be much worse for only a few thousand more

What's the lure of leasing a Prime? Aside from the usual lease vs buy; if you stay under 12K/year, what's the point, given the fuel savings are minuscule compared to any regular car, there's no tax savings (?), and you get much more features/luxury/comfort/value with, say, 3 series bimmer or an Infiniti or whatever with nice lease rates.

P.S. Not sure re 35K M3, but the 37K version looks like a very attractive proposition.

Buy the 3, please, 8000 nonsense posts on the tesla forum will be enlightening.

But if you buy a BMW M3, same same.

idk, several guys here at work got the tesla, paid closer to 60k. and i just bought a premium prime 2018 leftover with discounts and fed tax credits i'll be OTD at under 21k. i was in the market for a replacement vehicle, and wasnt even thinking PRIME, i was thinking S63 coupe(used), GLE43(used), bmw i8 (used). but when i stumbled onto the 2018 new leftovers going for such low prices, i changed my mind and went for it. the deal was just too good. i look at the prius or prime as an economy vehicle not a luxury vehicle, so i'm not interested in "loading it up" that just bloats the price. if i was going to load up the PRIME with 10k worth of unnecessary stuff, i would have just gotten the i8. i know those are totally different classes of vehicle, but part of me is budget driven, and part of me is image driven, one can over rule the other if its an exceptional opportunity ;) i just couldnt justify a 70 k i8 or 60k tesla when i could get basically the same from a 21k PRIME. this is applicable in my specific driving situation, 12 mile each way commute, free charging at home and at work...

If it works for you go for it. I guess, if you can afford $39,000 Prime Premium, then you are right buyer for Model 3. I paid less than $20K for my Prime Premium. Yeah, if I could get Medel 3 a few grand more of that price tag, I might consider. OTOH, I don't think I want to buy a car that can not be serviced within its driving range. LOL

Leasing nearly any plug in lets you get the full benefit of the tax credit, since the lease company normally applies the value of it to the lease.

Point well taken. With very rapid advancement in battery technologies, buying EV or PHV almost makes no sense, except for PRIME. Toyota seems to have never offered great lease deals on PRIME. I never looked into it, but the price on the advertised lease deal was much less attractive than purchase. With Clarity and Leaf, I found great lease deals though. Does Tesla have a lease deal?
