Anyone know how to replace Blinker Relay?

    I have a 2006 Prius that has the blinker acting up. Sometimes the RT goes on and stays on without moving the blinker arm. I want to try replacing the Relay. Anyone know the process to remove the dash and get to the Blinker Relay?

    Any help appreciated.

    Looking for more what I need to remove inside car to get to it. I've looked online and don't see any instruction for Flasher relay for the Gen 2 Prius.

    Searching the Repair Manual, the expression "turn signal flasher assembly" only appears on the pages in the above attachment. Could it be that's all there is to it, a small block in the fuse box?

    I think its above the left leg drivers area, above the fuses there. I don't know how to get to it. I've looked underneath and don't seem able to see it. I guess I have to remove the knee-dash panel to see if its accessible?

    That's the diagram I'm going off. That and when the blinker was on the sound was there. Just looking for any experience someone else might have had. I guess once I remove that dash panel I will see if its accessible?

    This video is for replacing the combination meter, so it's overkill. But it will show you how to remove the dash. Just go as far as you need to to find the blinker relay.

    You only need the first ~40 sec of the video Jerry posted above. Pull off the silver air vent trim piece (VERY carefully! they get very brittle and will break easily--pull straight out, don't try to get the top and then the bottom, that will break the tabs or the piece itself--ask me how I know!) then two screws. Look for the yellow clips, they often stay in the rectangular holes in the dash. Be careful putting everything back together. In my used 2004, someone did not line up all the clips over their holes when pushing everything back together and bent the clips down (had to replace the entire piece with junkyard parts.) Don't worry about unclipping the hood release cable/lever from the trim, it should allow you to move it out of the way enough.

    @btped , have you checked to see that all of the bulbs are working? If one of the bulbs on the right side burned out and then shorted, or the wires shorted, you might have weird problems like this. Put the emergency flashers on and make sure the bulbs have the same brightness left and right. --just a thought...:coffee:

    @btped , here is a great writeup on replacing the flasher relay: 2005 Prius LED Flasher Relay from very helpful user @kkeane.
    Also, here are the repair manual instructions for removing the instrument panel (shows all of the tabs.)

    OK I changed the Relay. (Just a note: there is a metal plate with threw bolts that covers the Relay you need to remove, another :20 to take that off, then you have access to the Relay.) Pull out and replace with new Relay.

    Unfortunately the problem still exists.

    Its intermittent and driving me crazy. The local foreign car place could not discover the cause.

    At times when using the right blinker the left goes on as well(like its on Hazard mode) Other time the right blinker or both goes on for no reason while driving. Definitely makes for a less than safe condition.

    Any suggestion for the next item to check??

    When it goes on while driving, does changing the steering wheel position stop that?
    Perhaps it is a weird clock spring issue. The clock spring connects the turn signal switch to the rest of the car, among other things.

    Its basically as if the RIGHT blinker is always on. Even if I don't use the right turn signal switch.

    I wondered about that. But the turn signal stalk doesn't turn with the wheel, so I don't think it could be the clock spring. But there must be a short between wires somewhere. Tracking it down might be a long process.

    I had a bad feeling about that as soon as I saw you were writing about replacing that without more information to suggest it was the problem, but I'm sorry I didn't see the thread until now so it's too late to suggest anything else.

    If I'd seen it sooner, I would have suggested watching with Techstream to see what position the ECU tells you the signal stalk is in, and using the active tests to command the signals on and off and see what happens. Might at least narrow down whether there's an issue upstream or downstream of the ECU.
