So I got to thinking the only engine swap that I ever seen done on a prius was the lame boring ho hum oh another one ls swap on a 2nd gen.

The factory engine doesn't seem to like boost so what better to just toss and and throw in something else.

The only "functional" boosted one is a car in thailand and it doesn't seem like it really even works.

Also the old fox marketing super charged CT200H seems to never have been functional or shown and proof.

If one was two do a motor swap what engine would you use? (keeping it fwd)

I would think a FWD sr20det would be a good fit for the car.

I don't think a honda motor would be a bad idea either

Once i run out of things to do I would totally do some thing like this

You don’t run out of things to do until you’re dead. That’s when you’ll get to this project

If I was to swap, I’m torn between one of the following options.

Number one, swap the Prius powertrain into the back of an MR2 spyder.

That would free up the spyder powertrain to be placed into the Prius.

I think the Prius powertrain in an MR2 could turn out pretty cool.

I’ve always like the Honda K series motor. V-TEC Turbo

2JZ would be sweet but that would require hacking up the firewall.

With the AWD-e system around now, I wonder what the possibilities are for upgrading that back electric motor? I suppose those rear axles are not rated for a lot of torque, but there's room back there.

Have you seen this Gen 3 with electric RWD?

I think what @TK Rocket is getting at is a Prius with just an engine swap. Same platform just a different engine & transmission.

Yes that Hellcat “Prius” is cool but at the end of the day it’s just a Prius body sitting atop a custom 1 of chassis. There’s absolutely nothing left of the Prius expect the body.

Nothing exciting about. Just another run if the mill v8 swap hell cat or not.

What would really be exciting to me if someone could could make the original motor turbo and run as it proper especially with the hybrid system intact.

I've always wanted to swap a Camry Hybrid powertrain into a Prius.

That would be interesting. It begs the question on how much of an improvement there would be, and would you get economy and performance both, or just one or the other.

I would think you'd have a gain of both. Camry Hybrid already has higher output. Wouldn't have to work as hard to move the Prius as does the 2ZR so MPG should in theory also increase. Of course I would do this for performance gain primarily. Add a second battery pack and possibly turbocharge the Camry engine.

These funny electric wheels could have some appeal to the track & mod enthusiast.

I really don't imagine anyone is going to integrate them from the factory, they just seem too fragile for street warranties and they appear to depend on exotic tire sizes.

But if you're building a funcruiser or a track car? Yeah, that looks like a lot of fun.
