I always listen to my Ipod in the car, but about a month ago the AUX button doesn't do anything when I press it the button is like this [CD AUX] but when I press the AUX side aux mode doesn't come on, but the CD side works.

PS, I took those plastic wheel trims off , it looks way better :)

I was looking on here and found out how to get into system check mode on the display and it gave me these codes for the radio, can't figure out what they mean though. I would prefer to just fix it at home if it's an easy fix, to avoid a couple hundred dollar dealer charge

Any chance that the other end of the AUX cable has popped out?

    Thanks for the reply!
Na, unless do you mean like on the inside of the dash ? Usually even when I didn't have the ipod or aux cable plugged in it would go to the AUX setting but not play anything of course. I have a griffen cord I plug into the ipod and into the jack in the middle console

Try turning the devices volume way up. I always have to after using headphones. The button has no sides, push it and the top of the MFD says CD push again AUX.

Ya man, that's what I mean it will only say CD not the AUX on the screen like it won't go to AUX mode at all. Trust me i'm not a total noob =d

I just checked mine. If I unplug the cable inside the console it does the same thing. Immediately switches to CD and refuses to go to AUX. Try working the plug a little, maybe with some contact cleaner. Toyota has a TSB for that part to filter out whine (ground loop) but only for 3yr/36,000m.

If there is no signal on the AUX line, it will not switch.

Having a cable plugged in with no source it is just acting like an antenna. If you get enough noise, you can trick the system to switching to AUX without anything connected.

So I tried to turn the AUX on and today it decided to work ( random ) , could it be the jack in the middle console has a short in it maybe?
Hmm well, atleast it worked earlier, hopefully it does again tomorrow.
Thanks for the replies and feedback very much appreciate it.

Did you have an actual source plugged in?

If it doesn't go to AUX and you have a source plugged in outputting a signal, then there is a problem. In every other scenario, it should not go to AUX unless it picks up noise from the wiring.

I have a 2011Prius II and the very same thing happened. One day I went out to the car and wanted to listen to the XM radio which is plugged into the AUX jack in the center console and I turned on my radio, which was on FM2 and works great there and on AM and FM1 as well plus plays an audio CD perfectly - and when I punched the CD/AUX button the radio stayed on FM2. I have listened to audio coming out of the XM radio, it is working perfectly into headphones. I have checked the audio cable at both ends to insure both are plugged in, and reseated both multiple times. It isn't that the audio isn't present, the AUX indicator on the front of the radio should show it is on AUX - it does NOT show it switched to AUX. I don't care if audio is present or not, the damned things should switch to AUX and show it is on AUX and not still be showing FM2.

Follow up: I got to thinking, and realized on the steering wheel there is a "Mode" button in the middle of the radio cluster that is supposed to step through all the various sources - AM, FM1, FM2 and CD/AUX. I mashed it repeatedly and no cigar ! It would never switch to AUX. Now I am perplexed.

My 2011 Prius has developed the same fault. Pushing the AUX on the radio or the Mode on the steering wheel NEVER brings up AUX. I guess from now on if I want to listen to my XM radio I'll need headphones.

AUX doesn't work all of a sudden, though FM, AM, etc. all do. I push the AUX button, nothing happens, just stays on FM. Does anyone have a fix for this? Thanks!

Hi mate, I purchased the same car and am having similar issues. Basically the the aux is not recognized when I press the Disk.Aux button. My understanding is the AUX module inside the center console has been fried. Not sure how you get the aux jack out of the center console.

But this should FIX the problem:

Any links to getting the AUX port out of the center console would be appreciated.

Thanks for the video. I was able to access the aux port in the center console by removing a few screws and popping the cup holder off. I had to reach in and push the aux port loose. Then I followed your instructions and now it works again!

    Thanks!

You popped off the front or back cupholders? The little's have popped the rear set off without trying to hard but I can't figure out the front

I just did the modification to my aux mentioned by Varun above for my 2009 prius. This worked great. Thanks for the video!

My son took my center console mostly apart and yes he did just pop off the front cupholders (we did not need to remove the back cupholders). Then we unscrewed a couple things and were able to unplug and detach it. This gave access to the aux port, and from there the process was the same as the video.

I can’t believe this advice works. You just saved me $35k.

Who was going to charge you $35k to spray contact cleaner on your aux jack?

I'd have done it for half that.
