Hello everyone. My last car that I loved dearly, a 1998 Ford ZX2, gave up it's ghost mid-December and I replaced it last week with an '05 ... 142,000 miles. It's nice. It's kinda funny that my sales-guy gave me much more credit than I deserved. After I pulled away I made another stop. When I got back in I realized that I was screwed. He never showed me how to start the car. It took me 10-minutes to figure it out. Anyway ... when I got home I read the book and watched some YouTube vids. I've only replaced 1 thing since I took ownership. The dealer was nice enough to just give me a cabin filter when I asked. Wow ... stock OEM parts sure are flimsier than common aftermarket. The stock standard radio kinda sucks ... but I'll live with it. It's a drag not having regular common gauges too. I'm halfway through my first tank of gas and I'm averaging 45-mpgs. What the what is going on with that?!? 45 mpgs could make me put up with a lot of crummy radios. LOL @ Me. Thanks for having me. ZEPPO
The are a number of ways to get 'Car Guy' gauges. I use a scan gauge II, it can show over 100 gauges, 4 at a time. I use instant gas mileage, water Temp, Voltage, and intake air temp. LOL. ... Luck?!? ... A Wiseguy you are. As it was, I bought the car Friday afternoon. Last night the "Check Engine" light comes on. After 4 clown places refuse to computer-check it I get to an auto-parts store. Five(5) minutes later we see a code that came up for some coolant switch. I was at the dealer at 4:30 this afternoon. The good service guy I was dealing with talked to management and they said it was +/- $450 and I had to pay. I answered with two(2) words ... "Lemon Law". He went back and talked to them again. Two(2) hours later I drove home with a fixed car ... ON THEM. ... NO problemmo.
Probably depends on what state you live in? Where I hail from, the minute you pay for your 'out of manufacturer's warranty didn't buy an extended service contract from the dealer' used car, its 100% yours - you lose even the protection of "usability for stated purpose". So if it becomes in effect nothing more than a multi thousand dollar paperweight exactly 60 seconds after you pay the dealer, that's not their problem. Its a cold cruel world out there in used car land. Well, in this state it is. Although the state does have a lovely online site dedicated to explicitly explaining that to folks such as myself who don't know from nothing about used car sales and As-Is sales.
