I saw that article and wondered why they were ranked by customer satisfaction and not the CR "Ratings". If they were ranked by CR's ratings the Prime would be further down the list. I think the Leaf would be first on the list for sure.
Don't want to give you a hard time but they ranked by customer satisfaction because the article was about "cars owners love and hate", in other words customer satisfaction. Full ratings will be in the April annual auto issue
typical CR survey. "Some of us (you) like it!" "Some of us (you) don't!" For anyone into the details, there's nowhere near enough information to make an informed choice. This isn't a knock on CR, I just don't see value to the level of detail they present in a chart like that beyond "all of these cars are okay."
I look at it this way. The vast majority of those who buy cars are not interested or involved enough to join a forum like this. They subscribe to CR and can easily see that a Prius or Prius Prime is much more likely to have a satisfied owner than a Hyundai Ioniq. Not a lot of info, but that is all they really want to know.
Agreed. If you look at the 5 categories that they list, the Ioniq is equal in 2 and better in 3 yet overall Prius ranks higher in satisfaction. So there is no explanation of why. Maybe Prius owners care about other factors like long term reliability.
I concur. Well, maybe car buyers of a certain age, anyway. The ratings and reviews market got considerably larger and more diffuse after the internet got cheap and omnipresent. My father has sent me gift subscriptions to CR for decades now, but it's mostly because I can't talk him out of it. I can't remember the last time I was able to apply their research (which I still admire and respect) to a purchase. They're always rating the wrong models, stuff that isn't sold near me or on the websites I mail-order from, and they rarely go deep enough into the details.
I’ve been surveyed for this rating in CR a few times. They are quite vague and it’s likely there are some categories and questions people might misinterpret. I know one year, they asked so many questions and got so repetitive, that I stopped giving a lot of thought to my answers. So, I’d take this survey with a grain of salt. You can’t please everyone, and a problem for one person might not be considered a problem for another. I’ve had a few things replaced, but I don’t consider them an issue with the car, just my bad luck.
