That's a great deal! Especially with the college rebate and state credits. But 2017? Now is already 2019 and they still have 2017 models?

Yeah, it was their last model that somehow hadn't sold yet.. The build date was 12/17 (vs 11/17 on the Plus that I bought in June), so not *too* old. Battery range seems the same as my last one.

I live in Grand Rapids, MI, but flew out to NJ last weekend (and had a 12 hour trip back) to pick up a 2018 Prius Prime Plus in Blue Magnetism. I paid $22,997 out the door. After sales tax and getting the federal tax credit back next year I'll end up having paid around $19,900, which I thought was a great deal for a 2018 Prius Prime Plus. Toyota is offering $5000 cash incentive in those parts and there were some dealer incentives on top of that.

I took advantage of the same deal (I live in NJ)

    2018 Prius Prime/Hypersonic Red
    MSRP: $28,923
    - $923 dealer markdown, $5000 Toyota cashback, $500 on 2004 Honda Civic Hybrid trade-in with dead hybrid battery
    Selling Price: $22,500
    + $3036 TTL/dealer fees
    OTD: $25,037
    - $4500 federal tax credit (expected for 2019 tax year)
    Final: $21,036
    Dealership: Wood Ridge, NJ

I took a bit of a hit in dealership fee area, but I decided to let it pass because they were willing to accept a 15 year old Honda Civic hybrid with a battery replacement that cost more than the vehicle is worth. Between all the cashback/credits/markdowns, I was able to save over $10k from the MSRP.

I bought a premium! Titanium w/black. I got it on last day 2/4 because I didn't want to miss the 5k...And of course they extended it to the end of Feb. So deal is still active for anybody looking in or near NJ/NY. 25923 otd. I'll do price breakdown later. Princeton Toyota. They have every color (except titanium I think I got the last one) and plus premium advance to shop and compare.Fritz had them all lined up for me when I arrived. They were ready to deal...I had no trade. Bought with cc cash and check. Could have had 3.9 financing but didn't bother.
    • 2018 Prius Prime Premium / Titanium Glow / Black Softex Interior
    • MSRP: $30,930 (29000 MSRP +1010 options+920 delivery/processing fee)
    • Included all-weather floor mats/trunk liner, regular floor mats/trunk liner. side molding, door edge guards, bumper applique, tonneau, wheel locks, vin etching.(some of this crap i didnt want but it was already done so whatever, dealer incentives made up for some of it)
    • $5,000 Toyota Bonus Cash (available 1/4/19-2/28/19 on 2018 models in NJ.
    • Dealer knocked off about $1953, hard to detail as it was re-absorbed by tax, dealer fees, etc.
    • Final price out the door after PA tax($1439), tags/fees($507= 299dlr +208reg/title): $25,923.00
    • Toyota of Princeton, NJ
    • another math version
    • MSRP30930-dlr incentives1953= 28977-rebate5000= 23977+tax1439+ tags/fees507 = 25,923 OTD
Federal Tax Credit should be 4502 and state rebate for PA should be 750.
which brings it down to $20,671.

People will do desperate things to get the car they want. The salesman I bought my Prius Prime from said he had a guy fly from Arizona (the dealership is in New Jersey) to buy a Prius Prime.

I think his reason was the great Toyota factory incentives on the East Coast. I am in LA, and I considered flying to the East Coast to buy a Prime to save money.

That Carvana situation is the opposite of that. It's buying for more than one would pay for a brand new one, even in California.

I wouldn't call that desperate, like LilyHere mentioned, buying in the cheapest area and driving back while saving money overall is quite the opposite of desperate. Its arbitrage.

The Carvana thing is beautiful for them, bad for an uneducated consumer. But I'd say 98% of most American's are not educated at all on money management and acquisitions techniques.

I checked toyota's deals section and unless I'm reading it wrong it looks like right now there $0 incentive for California buyers on 18/19 Primes. We got it rough out here!

Haha. Yep, just like the southeast US, which is covered by Toyota Southeast Distributors (Jim Moran's company, RIP.) They have 0 interest in really selling Primes. But, its the southeast, SUVs and Trucks are what they like selling.

Here is the latest picture on Inventory:
    1. Hardly any inventory left on the west coast- Pacific Northwest , NorCal and SoCal regions are out of Primes!! Seems like everyone is awaiting the 2019 model.
    2. Good inventory in New england and Greater NY.

Also, No more incentives in NorCal and SoCal. All other regions have the same incentives - 4.5K in New England, 5K in greater NY, 4K in central atlantic (just 15 primes left there) and 3K in Pacific Northwest, although there is just 1 Prius Prime showing up in the inventory for the entire region.

5k off msrp ? Nobody here in the Midwest comes close to that.

How does this work exactly when buying out of state? Do I have to be in person to purchase the vehicle or can my bank wire transfer the funds and then the dealer can flatbed the vehicle back to me? Any downsides in out of state purchases like this? What about taxes. Do I pay WI or out of state taxes. Can I transfer my existing plates?

5k is just the toyota rebate. The dealer can easily give 2 to 3k discount on top of that. In most cases you need to show up at the dealership to do the deal, but put down a deposit over the phone so they can't bait and switch. Look on cargurus.com and you'll see some dealers in NY and MA are selling for 8k off msrp. New 2018 Toyota Prius Prime for Sale in Mc Lean, VA - CarGurus

Over the phone and then have my bank do a wire transfer?
