Prius Prime Advanced, car lower battery mileage suddenly?

    I'm in the next state north halfway to Canada and I see a drop once the temps outside start going south due to having to turn on heat in the cabin. I only have a premium, not an advanced, so I don't get the heated steering wheel or the fancy defrosters on the mirrors, etc... When I can use the heat sparingly I will do that, and I go from just making it round trip in the more moderate weather, to barely making it one way during the heating/winter season.

    How can one climate prep a Premium Prime? The last attempt ended up killing my 12V as I apparently only had it in "accessory mode" :(
    Also, thanks for clarifying that the seat heat uses more electric than the heat pump A/C heat.

    LOL, actually many of us in "NE" use wood stoves...went to a wood stove because some silly person built a house with electric heat... and not knowing any better we purchased it... after one heating season, we went and bought a wood stove.... and have been heating with wood primarily ever since... 20+ years... the one positive is that this house had great solar gain and there was great passive solar heating to be gained. So with the slate hearth and brick facing behind the stove, there was also gains from radiant heat storage....

    I live in central Fl. where 40 degrees is freezing nice person cold for us, & my mileage per charge dropped from 28-30 to 20-21. Running around town same places most of the time. My MPG used to stay on 199.9, forever, not anymore. Dealer found no codes. Any suggestions?

    Patience. I get a similar percentage reduction in our "winter" here in the Tampa area with the PiP. It comes back when it warms back up. In fact, even today was a bunch better than last week.

    Battery efficency drops in cold weather, it's as simple as that.

    Which heating options do you activate when driving in chilly 40F Florida weather? I recomend Auto set at 65-68 vented to feet and front windshield and steering wheel heater if you got one. If you activate the front defroster (button) the Prime will very likely start the engine.

    Which drive mode are you using (Eco, Normal, or Power)? In Power (sporty) mode the engine is encouraged to be on, and in Eco mode the AC (heat or cold) is uses less power.

    Our family is on it’s 4th Prius and we have learned how they like to be driven (traffic permitting). My wife recently reported that she drove all EV home from work in polar vortex 5F temps after 8hr single digit cold soak. I told her of the standard lines that the engine has to come on because the heat pump doesn’t work below 14F. She told me she didn’t use any heat. So later we drove 4 miles round trip for dinner (no heat, 40 MPH max). It was still 5F - 4F and the engine did not come on and I was one again amazed at the engineering marvels of the Prime.

    Moral of the story; Learn how to drive efficiently from your Prius when it is appropriate and just drive it the rest of the time.

    My window sticker says I have heated side mirrors, I don’t believe it. Iv been driving the 2017 base model for three years now with no evidence of heated mirrors. ???

    It turns on only with the rear defroster on. On a humid and cool day, I sometimes see a small square of fog imprint on the middle of the side mirror corresponding to where the heater is. I will try taking a picture next time I see it.

    TY for the replies. I moved three years ago and my owners manual got lost. I have this mountain drive down 2-3 miles, then up the same. Then down1-2 miles, then up 2-3 again til freeway start. In the Winter often the side mirrors are still foggy on the entrance to the freeway, a bad situation.

    I am having a similar issue, my 2018 prime use to show 27 EV miles all last winter and this year has been very mild and now my full charge is at 19. I took it to the dealer today and they found no issues. I think there is an issue with the battery. I opened a case with Toyota and will let you know what comes of that. … DK

    I am actually having the same issue with the hybrid battery charging with less autonomy that I ised to get. I am now getting only 39km vs about 50-55kms, with same kind of weather. Strangely, this seems to have happened since the last update resulting from Toyota recall on my Prime 2017. I am charging my car everyday and never got to these issues. Does anyone else have the same issues following the latest Toyota recall update?
