My 2018 Prius Prime shuts down while driving and immediately turns back on. Anyone else having this problem?
In the olden days I'd say it was a dirty fuel filter but now a days ?? Get the codes read or read them yourself. May give some insight into whats wrong.
if you are talking about the humongous screen rebooting, yes. search is your friend. if you are talking about the engine, that's how hybrids are designed to operate. if you are talking about the whole car shutting down and stopping in the middle of the road, get thee to a dealer
The dealer couldn’t find anything wrong. Have another appointment to have the diagnostics checked again. It lasted literally seconds. Screen and dash completely shut down and rebooted.
I like the “That is the way hybrids work “ solution. I was reading more into the question than required. Occam’s Razor.
Intermittent malfunctions can be a royal pain to figure out. But, if they read the DTC codes, I would think there would be a history of some kind of trouble code. It's odd to just shut itself down and way more odder that it then restart itself.
I totally agree Jerrymildred. It has happened on 2 separate occasions now. After reading more posts I’m beginning to wonder if it’s a computer system reboot of some kind???
also, if the car shut down, corporate can bring their computer and see that info in the 'black box'. give customer service a call, and report your experience to nhtsa, that is a dangerous situation, and needs to be addressed before someone is seriously hurt.
When you return to the dealer, ask them to check not only for diagnostic trouble codes (using the Health Check feature of a Toyota Techstream diagnostic system), but also for vehicle control history events, described in my previous posting. If the dealer is stumped, the should open a case with Toyota’s Technical Assistance System (TAS), the dealer-only support line.
Dealer contacted Toyota. There is a computer upgrade to the hybrid side they are installing this morning and hoping it will correct the problem.
I haven’t seen a service bulletin or campaign publication from Toyota about it, if that’s what you mean.
Yes. Just over 2000mile on my prime. Scary. Still at dealer. I won’t drive it until they find what caused everything to black out. Scary.
