2014 Prius v 5. So far I have changed the driver side and passenger side actuators. The driver side gave me issues for months only during certain whether so it gave me some warning. Passenger side died out of no where a month after I replaced the drivers side. Both were replaced with $20 3rd party units off eBay which function properly as far as I can tell. So, both are replaced but I'm still having issues. Those issues are that the car does not always think it's unlocked when it is. That means I can't use the touch sensor to locked the doors. When I'm inside the car I can hear the actuator/relay located in the driver side footwell area firing repeatedly trying to unlock the unlocked doors. I can always unlock the car with any of the touch senors and locking and unlocking work properly with the inner door controls and the keyfob. Any ideas?
I found that many of the cheap ebay replacement units are missing internal parts; in fact, it was the 'unlocked' switch that was missing in two that I bought. It was for a Gen 1, but the principle, regrettably, seems to apply more broadly. I had put together a nice SVG showing which internal part was missing, and linked it to that post, but since then, PriusChat has decided to protect you from evil nasty SVGs, so it doesn't show up in the post. It's here, anyway: https://www.anastigmatix.net/stuff/actuaent.svg In my case, the problem was solved as soon as I bought an actuator that contained all its parts.
So annoyed with this. Now I've installed two OEM refurbished units and the driver door has a new issue. Now it cycles twice when told to unlock even though it unlocks on the first attempt and the 2nd issue is extremely odd. If the doors are locked and I press the lock button, the driver door will unlock 90% of the time which then makes the other 3 doors unlock. Lastly, the touch sensor locking still doesn't work.
Questions that pop up for me: - where does one get an OEM refurbished actuator? - have you tested the actuators on the bench, referring to the wiring diagram, to confirm all the right things happen at all of the pins, before putting them into the door?
The seller hit me back and solved the mystery. This installation shows the step I was missing. The key cylinder wasn't properly aligned because I never removed it and it was binding. Video starts around 11:30. Took me about 60 seconds to fix it and now everything is working perfectly. I still think my cheap aftermarket units were missing the parts required for everything to work properly. Refurbed OEM or rebuild the OEM units yourself are the best options.
