I'm confused about what parts I need if I'm changing my halogen assemblies to the OEM LED assemblies. On some old threads I found, I read something about ballasts and adapters. However, people are telling me that I don't need ballasts anymore, due to current LED technology. What information is correct, and what exactly do I need?
Based on my research as well, if you are looking to install the OEM LED setup with the two projectors, which I assume is what you are looking for, also IMO the coolest looking headlight... Then you will need a new harness, ballast, headlight assembly. If you want to keep your current headlights and just add aftermarket LED bulbs, the bulbs will come with everything you need and is less of a hassle... Sometimes you can get lucky on ebay and find someone selling the entire assembly but most times, its just the headlight assembly, no bulbs and no ballast. The ballast isn't cheap either.. Hope this helps...
Thanks for the response. Any idea how much the ballasts and harnesses typically go for? I found one headlight in good condition for around $120, and bought it thinking I got a good deal. I didn't realize till later, however, that I also need to get the ballasts and wire harnesses...
I almost made that same call and pulled the trigger.. Not sure if I am thankful or not but funds ran out for a bit so I didnt buy them.. So I just started looking into it.. Ive see aftermarket around 100 and real OEM up to 400.. But there is so much mixed information about them. I think you can reach out to Master Sean at Hybrid pit. He can actually source it for you. Budget for about 850 tho.. Which is usable headlight housing with all tabs and clear covers, harness, ballasts.
Man, now I'm conflicted about it lol. I feel like since I've already bought the one headlight, I should go through with it. But then, I don't know if I want to drop $800+ on headlights for a private sale 10 year old car with 137k miles. Ballasts or headlight assemblies? I'm assuming you mean just the headlight assemblies I've been talking to him through pm, but takes a while to get replies. I'd imagine that he's really busy What do you mean by clear covers?
